➤The only thing Dillian’s parents had in common was that they were both feral werewolves: one by blood, the other through bite. It made for a rocky childhood, one of misunderstandings, frustrating language barriers, and a belief system as mixed as he was. But he didn’t dislike his childhood. He grew up among streams that whispered stories of where they had been and where they were going, with trees so tall they could touch heaven, and among the wildlife that taught him how to be patient, kind, and knowledgeable. His mother taught him how to fashion clothes from threads, how to paint with flowers, seeds, and grasses, and how to read the land for the game they would hunt for. His father taught him the qualities of a leader, the ways of man that knew not what werewolves were, and how to protect himself if he were ever physically attacked. It was in this way that he found a place in the world, quiet and quaint in the mountains, fearing nothing but his own doubts.

It was when he was twenty two that he found a calling: a deep seated restlessness, like the ones his parents had felt, started up a song in his soul. It was a call to move, to find something. It wasn’t to find his place, like it was for his mother, and it wasn’t to find a new family and safety like it was for his father. It was a new song, one of adventure and fantasy, and all the stuff that made up childlike wonder. So he set off, just as his parents had hundreds of years before, into a world he had only heard of through the whisperings of his parents late at night. The technology was a surprise: cell phones, laptops, electricity, all of it was so new and foreign. Like a newborn, he had much to learn but he learned like a sponge, taking in everything he could as fast as possible. But it still took Dillian a while to grow accustomed to the way the world worked: it’s social rules, the unspoken rules of gender and race, and the even more discrete rules of his species. He found and lost love with a woman named Eliza, her story taking her away from him after a few short years. Dillian found love again in a man named Sirus, and lost him to sickness late one evening. He traveled both coasts of the Americas and most of the interior of the United States. Dillian honed his English but never forgot the Meskwaki of his father or the Spanish of his mother. It was in this way that he found a pack to call home, made up of werewolves ranging from Lycans, to beasts, to feral wolves like himself. It was a place he could set down roots and find a purpose in the new lives that were brought into the folds of his people. But he has yet to find what he’s searching for, though he has yet to give up.

➤A werewolf by blood, he is what was known as a lunar wolf in the tribe he grew up in. The man’s name was Mingan and he was born into a Native American tribe called the Fox, or as it was more formally known: the Meskwaki Tribe. Many in the tribe had been lunar wolves before, in fact the chieftain at the time, Mingan’s father, also bore the wolf blood. Many moons of tranquility passed for the tribe before a time that Mingan barely recalled within his memory transpired. He was still but a pup when he and his family were forced to flee from the Fox Wars that wiped out the entire tribe in the 18th century. For years they ran, Mingan having grown up with a life of fear and no roots, having to constantly move in order to simply survive. It wasn’t until he was a young man did his father and he try to fight back. The French battalions that murdered their people soon found their entrails scattered and their throats slit, a large gray wolf atop their corpses. Mingan and his father had taken revenge for their tribe, year after year they attacked what they could, killed who they could, and slipped away before the armies could be the wiser. But the retaliation came at a heavy cost. Mingan's father was not as strong as he had once been: two hundred years of life did that to a werewolf. It was soon that he expired, his corpse laid to rest along with wolfsbane and hemlock so that his body would not be taken by those unlike him. It was when Mingan grew to desire a family of his own did he leave his tribe to find a mate. During his travels he met Dillian’s mother and settled down with her in the far reaches of the rocky mountains, away from the strife of his old life and the fleeting legacy of his dying tribe.

☽ Mother:

➤Jeszua was a native of Peru, her tongue as silver laced and swift as her wolf. Also a feral, but not by birth, she was bitten by a she-wolf who had yearned for a daughter of her own, yet was barren and unable to birth herself. She bit the five year old Jeszua on a warm summer’s night while the child was playing in the reeds of a river near her home, the woman having appeared out of the forest with a quiet smile. Jeszua hadn’t had the time to scream before the figure became a large tan and white wolf. The change had been painful, she had nearly died from the effects, but she may as well have for what her family had planned for her. The family followed traditional Inca beliefs and they believed her cursed by the god Urquchillay, who watched over the animals. They took her beastly change as an ill omen and cast her out in the wilds to be taken by the god as a sacrifice. Instead of dying, as any five year old would have, she found a place with the maned wolves of the valley near her home, surviving with them and the woman who had bitten her. The young woman only found out what happened decades later, when she came upon her old home and was told the story by the she-wolf. Conflicted with rage, confusion, and a general loss of self, Jeszua took to traveling not long after, searching for meaning in her life, finding it in the gaze of a likewise lonely wolf from Michigan.

☽ Friends:

➤Having someone as close as a friend was never necessary to the werewolf, but he never avoided them. People stuck around in his life for as long as they did and when it was time for them to continue on their story, they parted. Dillian believes that people come into one’s life for a specific reason at a specific time, and that resisting the natural progression is foolhardy, yet oftentimes rewarding in its own way. It is for that reason that Dillian never fights for people to stay close to them unless it is a true bond he feels with them. If for only this reason, he has no friends.
