This is an optional system to use, it is not required to be used. I liked the system (if one couldn't guess by the usage of it) and find that the realism of it helps with character build and as a character creation tool.


What is it, and how does it work?
Basically, finding actual players to train slaves in various things can be difficult, especially in this day and age where most characters only last at most a year before their player gets bored of them and moves on- most characters (especially slave characters who get boring after they're purchased or who never get purchased) only last a couple months. This is designed to give people a reason to keep playing!

It works simply with a dice roll (so that your character can't ace every skill automatically) with a number of tiers and books that your character can learn from, each for different skills.

Trainers, if they can be found, will be opted into these various areas of expertise to volunteer or be paid to train in those specific areas. This will be explained further.

All skills fall under a broadly termed Category Skill (Combat, Cooking, Crafting, Entertainment, Linguistics, Servitude, Maintenance, and Collections). Leveling 7 or more skills to Master in
one Category will earn your character a special accolade (like a title that is listed on their papers), such as Brutal Gladiator, Gourmet Master Chef, or otherwise. All of these increase the value (and price!) of the slave in question, should they ever be sold!

All Skills have a range of seven proficiencies: Novice, Amateur, Competent, Adept, Skilled, Expert, and Master. All skills that slaves have prior to purchase will be listed, but only two (that are not languages) are allowed to start out
at Master level (though the others can be higher up or lower depending how much they know on the subject)!

It is recommended to keep track of your skills and proficiencies on your own web page, as well as your progress through a certain proficiency on your website.

A slave achieves these new proficiencies by completing successful tasks 2 times before they move up. This is done by rolling a 1d100, and quite simply, if you roll higher than 50, success! Your character has performed the task
correctly and has gained useful experience. Rolls can only apply to ONE skill at a time, even if they would seem to apply to more than one, so you must choose which it goes to.

Rolls can be done on the spot (with The Master/Mistress watching the slave perform the skill) OR can be done "After the Fact," meaning that your character ICly did it earlier in the day while they were alone (this doesn't have to be RPed out), but you roll when they meet with the Master or Mistress to report progress (or failure) which is when you roll. Either way, all rolls must be done in front of a Master, Mistress, or Trainer.

Wait; trainer?
Yes. A Trainer is a real Player-Character whose character is Expert or Mastered in a certain area of skill. If that is what your character is learning, Chaffen may ask that Trainer to tutor the Slave in that skill. Every training session spent with a trainer will grant you 15 TP (Training points). You may use these Training points to add onto a Proficiency Roll that might have otherwise been a failure, in order to achieve success. You may choose when you spend TP, and you may save up to a maximum of 45 TP to spend later.

Novice:
Starter rank, every new skill starts here. Brand new to the skill in question, the slave has only slightly dabbled in this skill, and cannot be expected to perform these tasks without at least some error.

Amateur
The slave knows a few items in this area of skill, but by no means can be called upon to do more complex duties in this field.

Competent
An intermediate Rank, the slave has learned how to tackle some of the primary hurdles of this skill, but most of the more complex details of the skill still elude them.

Adept
A practicing work in progress of the more complex parts of the skill, refining finer details and exploring new areas of the skill and trying new techniques, with some success.

Skilled
Fairly exposed to most areas of the skill, the slave can accomplish most tasks with ease, and can even, more impressively accomplish tasks that require more talent to pull off. The slave can now reliably be asked to do these skills for monetary gain.

Expert
Well versed, the slave can accomplish almost everything in this area of expertise, and can frequently be called upon to perform these duties for the Master or Mistress without incident. There may yet be a few things that they do not know, however.

Master
The slave knows every aspect of this skill through and through, has encountered problems and knows the solutions to them. The slave can be asked to do this as a primary use or profession in order to make money for the house, and can even be called upon to train other slaves in this area of skill. As far as skill goes, this is the cream of the crop, best of the best, and more money could not achieve you better.

Combat:
Anything that involves fighting with some one or some thing, either in arena, in the world, or in random bar fights. This includes all forms of weapon proficiency (Swords, daggers, bows) as well as hand to hand grappling techniques such as Jujitsu or Boxing. - - - Accolade: Brutal Gladiator

Linguistics:
All forms of languages or communication, including hieroglyphs and braille, and all written forms of languages. Because it is not uncommon for people to know and be fluent in many different languages, fluent languages known do not count towards the two-limit for Master level skills when first starting out. When a language is listed for a slave, it includes all three parts of the language, Spoken, Read, and Written. So if someone speaks a language fluently, but cant spell or read correctly, they would not be considered Master in that language. This category includes all forms of communication, as well as written talents like inscription and calligraphy, creative writing and book keeping. - - - Accolade: Renowned Linguist

Servitude:
Anything that involves the training in servitude, be it Gorean poses, proper obedience training, various services provided to slavers or patrons such as massage, grooming or hair-cutting. -- - Accolade: Servant of Exquisite Standard

Entertainment:
Music, singing, dance, comedy. any form of skill that involves entertaining the masses. This includes any form of sexual act or practice that would pleasure or please a Master or Mistress. - - -Accolade: Distraction Incarnate

Crafting:
Any form of trade skill that involves creating something eventually for sale, such as tailoring or blacksmithing, leatherworking and jewelcrafting. - - - Accolade: Unparalleled Craftsman

Cooking:
Anything involving consumption, which includes all forms of drink preparation and presentation, table setting, and cuisine focuses (like Asian, Italian, Mongolian or European cooking, but this list is nearly infinite). Also forms of focuses, like Chocolate, Meat, or Vegetarian meals, entrees, candies or desserts. - - -Accolade: Gourmet Master Chef

Maintenance
Anything that involves maintenance, either of yards, clothing, household cleaning, chimney sweeping, gardening, and basic mechanical repair (since we are in a steampunk type setting, basic machines do exist, and, occasionally, need reparation). This also includes all form of medicine and Surgery (maintenance of life). - - Accolade: Superior Estate Keeper

Collection:
Anything that involves simple tasks that require collecting, such as Mining, Skinning, Herbalism, and even Thievery. Collections of various types of books or artifacts also includes the knowledge of those items and what they are worth. - - -Accolade: Master of Acquisitions
