  Why did Maya become a pirate you ask? What brought her to this fate? What the hell do you think? She did it for the gold!
  
  Greed has always been in Maya’s nature. Since she was young she was always stealing from everyone. It didn’t really matter who it was. If it was worth something she was going to procure it. Collecting treasures of all kinds was in her blood from the very start and this is where our story begins. For one fateful night, little Maya dipped her hands in to the wrong pocket.
  
  In an attempt to reach a gold pocket watched carried by a poorly dressed gent in scraggly clothing Maya was bumped from behind and her hand was stuffed in to the man’s pocket. The man took immediate notice and grabbed her wrist with haste pulling a knife from his hip and putting it to her throat. “Tryin’ to steal me watch ey?” The man said with a raspy voice. Maya was terrified at the mere site of his face. He had an eye patch and more scars than she could count. His smile was full of gold and his one eye glinted in the shadow of the light.
  
  “No please! I’ll do anything, I can pay you!” She cried out. This peeked the man’s interest for a moment. “Pay me? First ye try to steal from me pocket, now ye be willin’ to bargin’ for your life with money? What kind of a sorry sap do ya take me fer?” He asked coldly. “I’m not lying! I can make it worth your while. Do you know what a fire ruby is?” The man laughed and put his blade away but did not release her arm. “Now ye just e pullin’ me leg and I only got one left you see. But I’ll play yer little game lass. Show me the fire ruby and I might just be willin’ to spare your life.”
  
  Maya did as she was told. Not because she wanted to… but because she could see the glint of a gold pistol when he put away his knife. She probably wouldn’t get far if she ran. So she took him back to her hole in the wall treasure trove of stolen property. There in the shine of the moon light lay a doubloon sized fire ruby. Just as she had promised. The man was shocked by the sight and regality. “Where did ye get that?” He asked. “I nabbed it off captain Calico. All I had to do was wait for him to visit the bar in Tolheim in the next town over. He gets pretty wasted.” The man laughed heartily. “How would ye like to come work fer me? Somethin’ tells me if me quartermaster didn’t bump you like he did to stop you, you’d have had me watch” Maya smiled and shrugged. “Probably… wait… are you a captain?’
  
  Turns out that the man she was talking to was none other than Captain Morgan of the Black Shadow. The ship that has been plaguing the East India Trading Company as well as the British Empire for the last 20 years. She was standing before one of the most dangerous pirates in the world. Never been caught and no one has ever seen the face of the captain. Not until now. Maya reluctantly accepted his offer and he put her to work that night.
  
  She became the crew’s pick pocket. Until she was old enough to take on the role of Quartermaster. It was a few years after that when she commanded the title of first mate. She became Morgans most trusted ally and his only real friend. She earned her title during a mutiny attempt by Paul Rogers, the former first mate who wanted the ship for himself. As he made a move for Morgan in his sleep, he made a mistake and a fight broke out in the captain’s quarters. The fight rolled out on to the deck and roused Maya from her sleep. She found Morgan injured and unable to defend himself while the rest of the crew watch as Paul was about to run him through. Maya grabbed a blade and pushed her way through the crowed and ran Paul through from behind. With a violent crunch she twisted her blade and pull the sharp edge up to his heart, killing him. “Anyone else want to try?” She called out in anger. No one dared challenge the quartermaster.
  
  Morgan was taken to bed and he promised to repay the debt he owed to her. He made her first mate that day and she kept the title of Quartermaster as well. Assuring her superiority over the entire crew until Morgan’s eventual death. He died four years later in his sleep with a bottle of rum him his hands and a note addressed to Maya. “Take good care of my ship lass…” Maya crumpled the note and gave her friend a proper sea burial. Soon after claiming the role of Captain. She promised riches beyond dreams to those who fallowed her and death beyond nightmares to those who would dare betray her. The crew, all too familiar with her ruthless nature, fell in line with ease. This Maya became the Red Queen, Captain of the Crimson Arrow.
