  Karter doesn’t remember much of his early life, what he does know is somewhere out there, he has a brother, Oliver, and he’s searching for him. Along the way, he seems to end up in bad situations, most of them involving working with all the wrong people. He’s had a particularly long history with working for various evil operations and governments.

  Karter is stubborn, impatient and a bit selfish. He doesn’t care what other think, and seems not to care how they feel, though that last part is secretly a guise to hide the fact he’s an emotional wreck. He’s sarcastic and fond of swearing, and he has a hairtrigger temper, but on the bright side, he’s energetic, enthusiastic and loyal to the few friends he DOES somehow make. He’s trying desperately to fix his negative points, and is a bit of a perfectionist.

    Dear god what have I done to deserve this now? Do I really have to write everything in here, Oliver? Okay. Okay, fine, whatever, sure.
    
    I'm a Runner. At least, that’s what I’m pretending to be. While I’m stuck in this world, my origin world and home, I have to pretend I’m a Runner, a Glader. I’m not Immune to the Flare, and that thought will always stick with me, haunt me. If I ever escape the Glade, I won’t be safe out there, so I don’t WANT to escape. My job is ironic then, huh?
    
    Well I was sent here a year ago specifically to get these shanks out, so that’s what I’ll do. I worked for WICKED with pride, and I know there’s a cure for the Flare out there somewhere, so I’ll do my part to find or create it.
    
    
    That’s all I’ll say for now. They want me. It’s time to report to the Map Room, and the Keeper's gonna be mad if I’m late for the third time in a row.

    Okay sure. Whatever. My big brother said I should keep a journal, so here I am. I’m stuck with a shuck journal.
    
    I am stuck. In. A. Giant. Maze. Help me. No actually, don’t. I’m suppose to be here, but don’t tell anyone else. Wait, you can’t, because nobody else is gonna read this journal. Well I’m a Maze Runner, as we call them, but somehow I seem to spread myself thin, working in lots of different areas, this is just my main one, my 'origin story' as Oliver likes to call it. Ugh.
