  The ashen wolfdog seems never to leave Masato's side, padding along with a fixation on the worlds around him; seen and unseen both, no realm is beyond his detection. He will lie on swords to protect him. Phoenix is dubiously loyal to the vampire, although he would never seek to hurt him, becoming gradually imprinted on him to the point that―and when it arrives, denial will eat him up―his obligation bleeds into infatuation. Masato has done more than save a life to which the boy, exausted and embittered, held to no value. It makes sense that it would take a terrible person to drive away terrible things. Phoenix sleeps better for his master's presence, even if he does think of him when he licks the blood from his teeth.
  
  "Shouri" is the name Masato has given his hound. Not only a name, but a promise... An endearment. Whether or not his love is reciprocated Phoenix is not likely to demonstrate.
