Doveline, or Dove as she prefers to be called, grew up in Sydney with her older brother Emmett and her parents. Up until the age of twelve, she appeared to be a happy, normal, healthy child. But from that point onward, her parents started noticing extreme differences in their daughter's behaviour. She was no longer her normally bright and cheery self. She didn't greet them in the mornings or hug them when she got home from school. In fact, she spent little to no time with anyone throughout the day. The reason for this? Dove was suffering from depression and PTSD.
The events that triggered this are not ones she likes to go into detail about but after some investigation from her parents and the school board, it was discovered she'd been sexually assaulted by one of the teachers. Her older brother Emmett, who was sixteen at the time, put the teacher in hospital for what he did to Dove. Due to the circumstances, the police weren't too harsh with Emmett's punishment, giving him six months of community service.
Following her assault, Dove spent the next few years going to therapy to try and help her deal with her depression and PTSD. However, nothing proved to be of any help for her. So her parents decided it might be a good idea a pet, an animal that was trained to pick up on when someone was having an episode and calm them down and keep them safe. But seeing as Dove was allergic to dogs, their first choice went out of the window quite quickly.
Instead they decided on purchasing a young kitten called Sushi, one of the first service felines to be trained to help those with anxiety and PTSD. On her eighteenth birthday, Dove's parents gave her the kitten as a present. The pair bonded straight away. Sushi was a huge help when it came to Dove's episodes and made things a lot easier for her to calm down in times of stress. Due to him being a licenced medical needs pet, she's allowed to take him anywhere should anything happen in public and she needs his help.
