• History and Beginnings

  Years long past, in a realm uncharted, when the tribes of humanoid beings ran thin, there were greater beings that dominated the earth. Among those, amidst the primal creatures of old that were fueled by the rawest forms of magic, dragons dominated the skies and small portions of the surface. Far off into the ocean in the center of a forever active volcano resided a special breed. Hybridized between the original species and the elements of flame from a pact made previous to the current age at that time.
  
  They were considered to be amongst the prime beings, having been touched by a small portion of what life itself was born from; they held such a title with pride. By nature they were wild, violent and untamed. For a time they were the tormentors, often setting forests and villages alike on fire, pleased by the sight of a blazing inferno no matter the damage dealt to living beings or the consequences they would soon bring about upon themselves.
  
  At the time of his birth, the tribes of both man and magic had already begun to plot the downfall of Exustio. He was born into royalty, though for his kind that did not include wealth or fine cloth adornments. There was no need for such trivial possessions. There was only power and respect, and being bred into the world by the dominant male made it so much easier. He was blessed and bathed in the flames of the fire elemental that created his race and taught that they were the truth and could easily take away what it took all four primals to give: Life.
  
  Around his 40th year of existence is when the tribes made their move. They came with the best warriors and the most powerful of sorcerers, but the best from an inferior race would always be that; inferior. The assault quickly turned into a massacre of men, though they had come knowing this. It was not their goal to defeat the dragons in combat, but to seal them away for eternity. While the Exustio battled and slaughtered the masses, their true plans came to light when the Volcano sputtered and roared before going silent. The elemental that gave birth to their race was sealed deep within and the heated paradise was extinguished in an instant.
  
  In the confusion the tribes took the advantage, using their foul magics to seal away the Exustio dragons one by one. They stripped away the brilliant scales and fleshy shells down to the blazing soul itself, trapping them within jewels and the most dull and mundane objects. The king's den was the last and the Prince of Flames, Pyr stood in the center. There was no battle, nor words exchanged as the beheld him as a man alongside the royal family. The father knew there would be no victory on that day, but felt them unworthy of stripping him of his true form.
  
  With a caution that only proved their weakness they reluctantly recited their spells and bore their seals to strip the flesh away from the family down to the core. The souls burned brightly in an exotic array of blue and gold and could not be sealed away in the objects prepared, while still threatening to set the world on fire. Instead their leaders stepped forward as a sacrifice to use their bodies as the vessels. The plan succeeded, and the men were quickly put into a dormant state of existence and escorted back to their homelands to be preserved for as long as possible. Their minds and bodies were tortured for several centuries by the heated spirits within before finally expiring due to the exhaustion of the cult they had set to keep the pure bloodline of Exustio restrained.
  
  In a last ditch effort the bodies were warped into an alternate plane and cast deep into the sea of this new realm before the souls were released. The vessels of the king and queen sunk fast and vanished beneath the depths in seconds. While the siblings simply washed away. Pyr, soon reaching a shore, escaped his prison, consuming it in the raw blue flame that was his soul. He lingered upon the beach for days collecting strength before finally reconstructing himself anew like the phoenix from the ashes. Who could stand against him now? Vengeance was his guide.
