As so many others in this world have, Dymas once knew love. But his heart chose badly, falling for a fae princess rather than one of his own kind. Their tryst was discovered, and Dymas cursed by her family. In their minds, the dragon needed to learn his place. Never mind how powerful and magnificent a creature he was, to them he was just an animal with particularly useful hide and breathe. For the rest of his very, very long life, Dymas was a slave.
No matter how proud the dragon was, the curse made sure that whoever owned him, by way of holding his talisman, had complete power over him. Dymas cannot disobey his handler in anything, no matter what it is and his feelings on the matter. They have total access to the mighty magic within him, and have both him and that destructive power at their behest. Most mere mortals go mad with the direct line to such raw power, and when they are finally dead, Dymas is free until someone else takes his talisman for themselves.
This has gone on for many thousands of years, and Dymas has endured every creative cruelty at the hands of all sorts. By now there is no fight in him, he indeed knows his place, and in his acceptance, has learned to try to enjoy the world as he is able. From time to time he will encounter a benevolent owner, and genuinely tries his best to keep his dark nature from tampering with their soul.
