Eligarde Dimir

History

• Biography

  Eligarde was born to a small log home within a lush green forest, just a stones throw away from a Halfling hamlet. His human mother, Elaine, brought him up on stories of a powerful elven mage who could create explosions of fire and force with a mere flick of his finger. He was told that his father had to leave him to protect their family from the dangers that hide deep within the world. Eligarde did not care for this however, what he did care about was a gift given to him by proxy from his Father, a slender wooden lute. The elegant carving of the wood were clearly done by an artisan but it seemed to deliberately look very plain. The only modification that made it stand out was a slender red ribbon wrapped around the neck. It bore no writing or glyph and it was far too short to be used as a strap, so Eligarde merely assumed it was for decoration.
  
  Eligarde would go out day after day and hone his skills on the Lute, often making trips to the nearby Halfling town to gather an audience. Over the years he became a bit of a known face in the town, having a weekly performance in the Smoked Ham Inn. His usual performances would begin with a small thanks to his mother and father before he would go into fantastical ballads of great heroes who journey'd through the lands or an odd dirty limerick to appease the drunks that would undoubtedly make themselves known. Many years passed by uneventfully and with the coin he received from the Inn he was able to assist his, now ailing, mother with food and other household duties she could no longer perform.
  
  One night as Eligarde was happily returning home from a rowdy, and much more profitable, performance he found that his mother on the floor next to a sheaf of papers strewn across the floor. He immediately went to check on his mother and to get her back into bed to figure out what had happened but as he felt her skin it was as cold as arctic ice. With a heavy cough his mother whispered to him with a strained voice:
  "Eligarde, my dear sweet Eligarde. My time in this world is almost up, you must have felt it too. I no longer chain you to this place anymore, be free. I entrust to you these final words, many I had hoped to give you sooner."
  With a labored tug, she pulls the papers from off the floor and hands them to Eligarde.
  "Know that though I may not remain here physically I will always watch over you. Always... always."
  And as the light leaves eyes and her head slumps, Eligarde quietly morns.
  
  After a week of quiet contemplation and a conversation with Mivvy, the Innkeep of the Smoked Ham, he decided he would follow the story he had told so many times before. He would become a great hero who travels the world in search of adventure and treasure, of course with the added incentive of his Mother's last gift, more information about his father and his potential whereabouts.
  
  So, with the last of his inheritance from his mother, he grabbed some adventuring supplies and a weapon and set out for glory, treasure, and to find his Father.
