Born to a royal concubine and a djinn, Sky's life started out the way it has continued well into adulthood--with lies and deceit. Even as a baby, it was easy to tell she wasn't quite human, for the head of feather-like hair and the scales dotting her cheeks like tiny, glittering freckles. Enraged, the king had Sky's mother executed, and ordered the baby to be sent into the desert and abandoned, either to be returned to her Djinn father or to die.
Her aunt, instead of obeying this task, spirited Sky away, sheltering her in the heart of the slums and raising the half-breed child as her own. Sky spent the first 19 years of her life learning to control her abilities, and to glamour herself to look as human as possible. She had a relatively joyous childhood, full of youthful mischief and surrounded by equally rambunctious friends. They stole, they laughed, they were scolded and forced into chores and punishments; they lived and they were free. Until the wizard spotted her in the crowd, and knew her for what she was.
He stripped her mortal soul and bound what was left of her to a lamp, stealing her from her family and loved ones. All to make a profit. She has been trapped in this form for 58 years, with at least another 42 left, for 100 years was the terms of the curse.
