Ayrshire – Small City | Population: 4,230

Once the gem of the region, Ayrshire was the second settlement to settle in Myrkviðr prior to the infliction that came to the forest. The city had found its home within the Howlite Sierras for the rich minerals and materials that can be harvested. By far, Ayrshire is the wealthiest of all settlements. As for leadership, a Watcher is placed to look after the many citizens and to lead. It was under his orders that the refugees of the fallen city of O'Fyr to be welcomed within his domain, going against the better judgements of the other settlements.


Bellbrook – Small Town | Population: 970

Bellbrook placed its roots between the many streams within the Doreen River Run. A town bustling with life - acting as both a channel for trading and travel amidst the thicket that is Myrkviðr. Yet, despite the liveliness of Bellbrook, it is a place where its denizens who are plagued with poverty, corruption, and wretched lives. There is rumor that there is a thieves' guild amidst ghetto, which organize crime against the Lodge of Eriwick and their horrid taxes. The motto they go by is 'Steal from the rich, and give to myself.'


Eriwick – Small Town | Population: 1,390

Along the shore of Doreen Lake rests the sleepy lakeside town of Eriwick. The community thrives on the bountiful wildlife around the lake, and is responsible for most of eastern realm's freshwater fish supply. The social guidance of the city revolves around what's called the Moonrise Lodge, or simply "the Lodge," a membership of community leaders who will meet and vote on important delegations and law-oriented decisions. The law enforcement is largely volunteer-run, and internally policed both by senior enforcers and the Lodge.


Fairiron – Village | Population: 336

Surrounded by the mystifying Feygrove, is the village called Fairiron. By far the most untouched village within the Myrkviðr in terms of conflict, the occupants tend to be more at peace in their home.


Ostgate – Village | Population: 560

If there ever was a civilization that called the Murkfen home, Ostgate is all that remains of it. Its buildings are made from planks of water-logged bogwood, the only sign of its previous greatness being the ring of stone pillars that once supported the Temple of the Red Jester. Even thought the temple to their patron god has crumbled, the people of Ostgate keep the faith; their belief in the holy fool's afterlife is their greatest comfort against their meager lives. Yet for all the gloom that surrounds the marshlands, the occupants of Ostgate keep a sunny disposition.

Black Tower – Built on the white Cliffside of the Howlite Sierras, a looming, decrepit structure lies forgotten and undisturbed by man. Once a prison to the most vile of men, the spire was abandoned under the threat of primeval forces and overtaken by unholy creatures. The inner structure of the tower was designed to be a maze. Once one walks inside, unless they possessed the knowledge of its halls, they are doomed to wander until their end is met - be it by starvation or death at the hands of its new denizens.

Devil’s Maw – A sinkhole, its birth a mysterious event that would disrupt the nature of the forest. Trees uprooted, animals relocating, routes for trade redirected. The direct cause of its sudden appearance is unknown, yet many tales have been spun about its suppose origin. Some say that it was a natural occurrence, while others speak of a hellish beast that has made its home in the pit that guard a horde of treasure. On occasion - brave souls go out to venture into the Maw in search of this wealth, only to become forever lost to the wilderness.

Doreen River Run – While many smaller streams and rivers run through Myrkviðr, gathering rain and snow runoff from nearby mountains, they nearly all empty into the massive Doreen River Run. A powerful river that tears through the heavy forests of the region, the Doreen River Run flows fiercely southward out of the woods, and into Doreen Lake near the border of Myrkviðr. There are many check points along the river, the main hub being Bellbrook. But it is not always safe to take the easy route through the forest. There is the occasional band of bandits that will try to rob a trading shipor water spirit to lure sailors to the deadly depths.

Feygrove – Even in the bleakness of the darkness, there is always a glimmer of light. A beacon of hope in the face of the harsh reality that is Myrkviðr. The Feygrove is such a place. Where flowers decorate the ground and the tree branches baring red fruit reaching towards the warmth of the sun. A scared site, the Feygrove, that it was degreed that no blood was to be spilt on this holy ground. To do so may risk death or banishment upon the perpetrators.

Black Dogs – Black shucks are monstrous hounds that haunt the countless footpaths and byways threading through lonely rural regions and sweaty fens. Habitual loners, they are foul and dirty; they resemble the most neglected of their mortal kin while embodying the most feral aspects of wild dogs. Black shucks often take advantage of the camaraderie of travelers, changing into human forms and luring lone wanderers further into a foggy moor with promises of a cache of food, a comfortable camp, or simple companionship. Once a victim is in a black shuck’s preferred killing ground, the beast transforms into its true form and viciously ambushes the poor soul, whose picked-clean remains are almost never found, having sunk into the moist ground to join countless others.

Huldra – A hulder is a seductive forest creature. From the front, a huldra appears to be a beautiful human woman, yet two distinctive features mark the huldra as something supernatural: her long, cowlike tail, and the fact that she doesn’t have a solid back—merely a hole that reveals her body to be a hollow, bark-lined shell. So long as humanoids are respectful, however, huldras tend to be curious about other races, and may aid those who pass through their territories by telling them the best places for hunting or fishing.

Nokken – Nokken are male water spirits who played enchanted songs on the violin, luring women and children to drown in lakes or streams. It is difficult to describe the appearance of the creature, as one of his central attributes is shapeshifting. At times, he presents himself as a man playing the violin in brooks, lakes, and waterfalls but also could appear to be treasure or various floating objects, or as an animal—most commonly in the form of a black horse.

Treant – Treants are awakened trees that dwell in ancient forests. Although treants prefer to while away the days, months, and years in quiet contemplation, they fiercely protect their woodland demesnes from outside threats.

Troll – Though grotesque, charmless, and prone to fits of violence, mountain trolls are not inherently evil, nor do they always attack intruders on sight. A mountain troll prefers to withdraw and observe before entering combat, lumbering forth to attack only if intruders make clear their intentions to harm it or its allies, or if the newcomers seem to be encroaching upon the troll’s territory rather than simply passing through. Mountain trolls prefer to live in narrow ravines or shallow caves that allow them to look out over the landscape.

White Stag – The White Stag wanders through the tangled forests and wild moorlands where the land is barely touched by Man. Elusive and rare, few hunters may have caught a glimpse in some hidden glade in the woods, or seen it moving ghost-like across the wild moors, or maybe stood high on a rocky outcrop crowned against the sky. A sought after kill by many, out of their reach.

Will-o'-wisp – Will-o'-wisps are malevolent, wispy balls of light that haunt lonely places and battlefields, bound by dark fate or dark magic to feed on fear and despair. Will-o'-wisps look like bobbing lantern lights in the distance, although they can choose to alter their colors, or wink out completely. When they activate their lights, will-o'-wisps offer hope, hinting of safety to creatures that follow them. They lure unwary creatures into quicksand pits, monster lairs, and other dangerous places so that they can feed on the suffering of their prey and revel in their death screams.

O'Fyr – Oh Fire, the undying flame now smothered by the blight of the wood. O'Fyr was once a prosperous city, the first to take root.

Palantír – The Lost Eye of the Keeper. A large, indestructible sphere of dark crystal with the circumference of 30 inches, weighing 40 ounces.

Thorncrown of Corvus – A beastly wreath of black iron in the shape of thorns and stag horns. Crafted by the a smith to mock the Dark King, whoever adorns this crown is gifted with wisdom yet at a price of madness.

Vorpal Fang, Silver Falx – The Wicked Blade, 3 feet (0.91 m) long black-wooden shaft with a long curved silver blade of nearly-equal length attached to the end - it is said to be capable of splitting a shield in two at a single blow. Alternatively, it might be used as a hook, pulling away shields and cutting at vulnerable limbs. The Vorpal Fang is said to hold the soul of the hero who once wield the sword. It's only purpose is to defend those of the weaker sort and to defeat those with evil in their heart. The location is uncertain, many tales ending in different outcomes with each telling.
