Part beast part man, but not monster. XO Bite only to kill. Kill only to live. Fight only when provoked. Not every monster is an enemy, not every enemy is a monster. Trust your instincts, trust your gut. Follow the scent, not your sight. Nomadic in nature, cautious in stride, strong in assertion, truth over pride. |
Lycan hasn't always played lone wolf out in the world. His original pack (not his birth pack) abide by a neutral code of conduct which he very loosely follows. He's not fully cognitive of memories though he holds some faint sense of awareness when transformed. This code of conduct is less of a list set to memory and more of an instinctive instructive influence over his natural beastial behaviors when transformed. He's not likely to break these behaviors. If he's drawing teeth towards you, he's drawing to kill as it is an unspoken rule that it is forbidden to afflict someone. |
Origin Story & Detail First and foremost, this specific affliction of lycanthropy has some variation that establishes it separate from others. It is in fact a curse of blood and being, and some can be born with it (without afflicted parents) while others can be infected. According to myth it is a curse that can be lifted, at least for those changed. For those born... stitching the fibers of their soul to a new body wouldn't be so recommended. The terms "Werewolf" and "Lycan" are often interchangeable but with few subtle differences that not many are aware of. A Lycan is often born, a Werewolf is often bitten, but that's surface knowledge. The word Werewolf is also inherently more modern, as in newer, whereas Lycan stems from a longer, latin history (with possible Greek origin). With that said, the offspring of two werewolves will not produce a Lycan. A Lycan must descend directly from the original bloodline in order to be considered a Lycan, or be born with the curse separately. A werewolf is also not infectious, only one born with the curse may infect others. These are the forgotten truths. The Transformation You Can't Stop xxxxx I am so fucking tired raincheck Roll a 1d20 for Affliction Lycan Only; On the night of the full moon, during Full Moon Rage, a Lycan becomes contagious and can infect a sentient humanoid with a bite full of cursed magic that relays similarly to a feverous illness. There's a chance that their victim will perish, or even survive, escaping unafflicted. Others are not so fortunate. 1d20 for affliction --- Nat 1 Death Rolling a nat 1 will automatically kill your character. Anything between 2-4 implies severe illness but no affliction. --- 5+ Survives Rolling a 5 - 14 ensures your character's survival and resilience to cursed magic, proving decent constitution and fortitude. --- 15+ Afflicted Rolling a 15 - 20 yields the affliction. Your character may experience extreme fever, hallucinations, and painful spasms for the duration of anywhere from one day until the next full moon. The closer to a nat 20 you roll, the more quickly your character recovers from the attack. Praise to thee, Goddess of the Moon Not all Lycan or Werewolves are inherently religious, but many know stories of Our Lady Silver, Selûne, as Selûne has a group of non-evil werewolves that worship her; and many more stories of Malar, as most lycanthropes who're Chaotic Evil are drawn towards the worship of Malar. |
OOC NOTE; This is just a brief comparison of information and was written for people interested in learning more about Raul's version of Werewolf D&D Lore! This was based loosely on the Forgotten Realms Fandom and was made by myself and my DM for the campaign that Raul currently participates, provided here for anyone interested in learning more.

LYCAN VS.
A Lycan is capable of greater strength, quicker speed, and sharper hearing whereas their sense of smell, comparatively to a werewolf, remains the same. They also possess a hybrid form uninfluenced by the moon, though the moon still plays a great spiritual and influential purpose in the lives of most natural born Lycans and forces a Full Moon Rage transformation which they have opportunity to regain control over every hour. Lycans will also retain a greater sense of awareness and self when transformed, with less of a chance of spiraling off into the beast. However, due to their ability to change at will, caution to the Lycan who loses their temper and transfigures in front of a bystander-- often cause for banishment from most Lycan packs. Least it be said, Lycans are not a separate identity craving flesh, blood, and destruction (Lycans with personality disorders exempt). Lastly... the more time a Lycan spends transformed, the more susceptible they become to permanent, irreversible transfiguration, which puts them at risk of losing their human identity and sense of self.

WEREWOLF
A Werewolf, although classified just as lethal and just as dangerous as a Lycan, is possibly more so. The reasons for this are, while potentially weaker, less quick, with poorer hearing, a Werewolf is unstable when transformed, especially while under the influence of the Full Moon Rage. Their DNA does not copy as purely as their ancestors when forcefully changed by an infectious bite. They do not have the experience and growth that a Lycan, especially a pack raised Lycan, may possess. They also cannot transform at will (not without years of practice), and when under the influence of the Full Moon Rage, they lose their human sense of self, their identity, and what makes them them while instead maintaining themselves a dangerous and aggressive creature of the night capable of unearthly horrors and blood-slaughter, thus giving most were-creatures a poor reputation. During the full moon their DNA becomes the most unstable, thus prompting the transition at the highest peak of aggression. Most develop a split-personality, or identify separately from their beast... but they are often one in the same, overrun with instinct and influence of the moon.

Both suffer from Full Moon Rage & both are extremely susceptible to MAGICAL ITEMS & SILVER. Any items, objects, utensils, tools & weapons, so long as they are silver clad or enchanted with magical inclination, are lethal to the Lycan. They take double damage and longer to heal from an injury made by weapons of these specifications. A silver bullet lodged into the body with no way out will indefinitely poison the werewolf -- with what's called Silver Poisoning -- and cause a slow, agonizing death. Arrow heads that embed the same with no way to be removed will yield similar results.
Wolfsbane can weaken the 'infection' for Werewolves but not Lycans, however with the curse weakened the human within becomes susceptible to it's poisonous properties. Wolfsbane is inherently poisonous to Lycans if consumed, the same as it would be for a human, if not more lethal. Wolfsbane can be used in concentrated doses (or craft into a serum) to subdue the transformation of any Werewolf, preventing them use of both a hybrid form, and Full Moon Rage form. The dose amount differs from Lycan to Werewolf. |
