• Description

  Jane is tall for a woman, and lean. Her skin, once fair, is now permanently marked by sun exposure and hard work. Her brown hair occasionally acquires highlights in the sun and is usually tied back with a leather thong if it isn't shorn short, and her eyes shift between brown and green. Both hands are callused from hard work.
  
  Typically she favors clothes worn by men, preferring the comfort and freedom of movement they provide. Denim britches, cotton shirts, and leather vests tend to make up her attire, in addition to well-worn boots and the occasional leather cowboy hat. A well-worn gun belt rests around her hips with an old, though well-maintained, revolver lying comfortably in its holster.

• History

  Jane arrived in America via cargo-hold on a merchant ship. Her father Ian bribed a sailor to stash them both when she was yet a wee bairn. He had reached an agreement with a wealthy landowner to serve as an indentured servant for a period of seven years in exchange for enough money to pay for safe passage to America for his young daughter and himself.
  
  Two years into indentured servitude on a cotton plantation in North Carolina, her father died of the consumption. The master decided that Jane would complete her father's contract despite being a lass all of eight years old. Five years of hard labor later, Jane was receiving a little too much attention from the master and other men and so, under cover of darkness one night, she stole a horse and headed West. She also stole a set of clothes from the stable boy.
  
  Fortunately she was tall for her age and looked rather boyish, so for a few years Jane scraped by working on various ranches and farms. Not long into her sixteenth year, she witnessed a showdown between US Marshals and a pair of outlaws in a growing boomtown called Jackson. From that point on, Jane wanted nothing more than to be a Marshal.
  
  Unfortunately, being female precluded her from the job.
  
  She tried applying as a man, but found herself denied every time. Frustrated and bitter, she spent the next decade as she had before, moving across the West from town to town, taking up odd jobs at various times as a cowboy, cattle rustler, saloon bouncer, etc. Her time working odd jobs has made her strong and quick, and made her skilled with a knife and a six-shooter besides. She's never had a place to hang up her hat and call "home", but she's never really wanted to find such a place either. Currently she lives on a knife's edge, balancing between the law and a life of crime.

  Jane does have a horse, though it isn't the same one she left North Carolina on. That old nag is long since gone.
  
  Now she rides a chestnut mare she broke herself during a ranch gig some five years back. She's rather fond of her, but, her creativity lacking, simply calls her "Horse". Maybe a better name will come to her in time.
