Jocose

In the dawn of prehistory a mighty little blossom emerged.

Through eons of evolution Jocose has managed to reproduce itself within new hosts, retaining some of its memories with each successive iteration. It has seen all of history through the many eyes of those it has infected, not even dinosaurs are a secret to this unassuming little bud. If you happen to catch it when it is sentient you may be able to bribe it into sharing some of the ancient secrets of the world. It has no true agenda other than to infect, reproduce and discard whatever creature it can get it's sappy little vines on. Jocose never really dies, it just goes dormant until the next opportunity to spread.

Oh my god. What is that smell? Is it good - is it bad? Whatever it is, its oddly irresistible. You walk along, sniffing for the source of floral yet the weirdly meaty aroma until your foot thuds against something soft. Glancing down you see a multicolored creature laying motionless at your feet. You're totally entranced by the rainbow beast until you realize that the hues aren't coming from the animal at all; rather, tiny little flower buds and leaves are sprouting from its skin with a single giant blossom growing out of its back! Curiosity is replaced with horror when the creature's eyes snap open. Waxy and lifeless, they meet your gaze; the mother-blossom unfurls to reveal a row of flytrap teeth, a puff of spores wafting into the air. Clearly this creature has been taken over by a parasitic plant.

Jocose is the plant. Sometimes it is just tiny sprouts and little leaves, sometimes little flower buds, sometimes it is a mature, sentient flytrap.

Jocose is not the animal it currently infects, though it can infect any animal it happens to get its roots into.

A note about god-modding. This is a powerful character. Jocose wants to infect you, that's literally its only true goal and it will use all of its guile to accomplish this. If you leave an opening for it to blow some spore into your face it is going to do that and you're going to have a rough time unless you find a healer right-quick! To balance this out please, feel free to just mow it down. Rip it out by the roots. Burn it with fire. Drop it in a salad shooter. I don't care! Think of Jocose like a super powerful wizard that put all its talent points into dark arts and herbalism and forgot to put any into defense, armor and combat. It is physically weak. Feel free to capitalize on that and escape if you want to, or don't. If you kill it it'll just come back later as another infected critter so no worries. I don't mind other little plant zombies to run around with either! If you'd rather sit around and muse over world domination we can do that too! C'mon, I'm a fun-gi!
