Phoebe doesn’t remember anything about her parents. She was too young to remember when social services took her and her older sister Claire from their mother’s care. It was nothing more than a name and a title with no face. As far as Phoebe was concerned, there was only herself and her sister against the world. The rest could go to hell in a handbasket for all she cared. Not that the world seemed to care all that much for them either, given that fate always seemed to be laughing at the constant obstacles in their way. So they decided to say fuck it all and run away. You can’t run away from the world, but you can try and run away from the bullshit...at least for a little while.

Adulthood, of course, saw the world catching up with them. Claire started living with a boyfriend. Phoebe (with no small amount of help from her sister) had managed to scrape together enough money to put herself through college. Try and make something of herself, all the while toiling away at a dead end up job she would likely still be working after graduation. And then, suddenly, she woke up. Really, truly, woke up. She hadn’t planned it. She had just been desperate in the silliest way. Time had been running out a test she had not been prepared for and as time ticked by she just...willed it to stop. It lasted no more than a few precious minutes, but it had been all that she needed. It was only later that Phoebe truly started to wrap her head around what she had done. A small single impossible moment, and she knew she had caused it. She could not simply turn away from the curiosity it had sparked to life in her. And maybe, just maybe, she could use it to finally make life easier for herself and her sister. Maybe even get Claire away from the man she knew was a terror from the moment she had met him.

She planned and practiced for months, so much so she almost forgot to attend her own graduation. When Claire failed to show up for even that, Phoebe made the decision to make her move. In the middle of the night, she used her new self-taught magics to separate her sister from her abusive boyfriend. Phoebe had steeled her resolve to commit murder, freezing time just long enough to complete the kill. But, still only a fledgling mage, her spell gave out and nearly cost her her life. Were it not for her sister’s timely return and a stab through the heart, she likely would have been dead. Without hesitation, Claire and Phoebe hid the body and ran. Ever since that fateful night, they have been on the run, continuously walking the treacherous path of navigating their newfound abilities. They are a team. They always have each other’s back. But Phoebe fears the toll it all takes on her elder sister, and she knows their precarious freedom cannot last long.
