POSTERCHILD
THE PERFECT WOMAN ___________________________________________ Mary Lou Durham (Née Richards) was born into a middle class family. Her mother had been a young hollywood star, who had fallen in love with a local police officer, who after a single night together had gotten her pregnant and thus had her climb on the fame ladder began to shatter beneath her feet. The police officer had her moving cross country, when he was stationed in the city of Gotham, and had her become a housewife, something she had never really seemed fond of. Whether or not Mary grew up in a loving household is up for debate, because though they never did anything mean to her and always made sure that she felt loved, her parents were never someone who particularly loved each other nor showed affection at all, in fact most of the time her mother would correct her father for all the things he had taken from her, the fame, her body, her beauty. Her mothers one mission in life was to make sure that Mary got what she never got. There for every left over money that they had were spent on sending Mary to every class imaginable that could shape Mary into being the poster-child of what every media outlet in America in the 60s wanted. She spend most of her childhood shifting between school, cooking classes, acting classes, etiquette classes, learning chores from the maid of the house (as her mother didn't want to lift a finger), seamstress classes, if there was a class that could make Mary into the perfect woman, you could be absolutely sure her mother would have made her attend it. Mary never quite had the time nor was allowed to think for herself, which means for most of her life she's grown up believing that what her mother made her do was what she wanted to do, and after all she was good at it so surely that must have meant something right? Wrong. Mary wasn't allowed to go to college by her mother, though her father didn't see a problem with it in the end, he was always most supportive of Mary but also had the one weakness that he lived off on the idea that he had gotten a hollywood actress to fall in love with him, and he wanted to full fill every wish she had towards him. They did however think Mary needed to socialize, and work her way up through the social class, which meant her mother started using up their money on sending Mary to private schools, that cost a fortune and without a doubt emptied out every last penny her mother had ever made on any movie. But it meant Mary could be a debutant with Gothams elite youth, and it meant she had a way in with famous women of Gotham. Mary became involved with some of the socialite groups of Gothams rich women, despite being of middle class. She was well liked for her manners, and organization skilled, and was often praised for being 'the perfect housewife'. In her early twenties she met Beatrice Durham, the mayors wife and mother of the aspiring astronaut of Gotham, who thought that her son and Mary were a perfect match for each other. And sure enough they were, the moment they met they were like long lost friends who could sit up for hours at a time and talk to each other. Mary had never met anyone in her life who she could talk to like that, who completely listened to her without judgement and interest in what she had to offer. And for Mary, that was her version of love at the time. But things wasn't always great for them. For the longest time, Mary never thought twice about the fact that they were never intimate, after all that wasn't something that necessarily happened that much in the times they were from, and her mother had always stated that she needed to be virtuos and wanted, and to not make the same mistake that she had made. But besides the lack of intimacy, they acted like most couples, they strolled down the streets hand-in-hand, they kissed each other and they stayed up all night in bed next to each other and talked until the sun rise in the morning. However, by 23, David Durham proposed to Mary - and things started changing. What had once not been something she thought of, was now something that was most definitly expected. When they married each other on a warm summer june night, they had their first time together, and it wasn't anything but great. The once best friends barely looked each other in the eyes for days afterwards, and the 'honeymoon phase' seemed to be a myth. Their late night talks even stopped, and for months after they slept in different rooms, only seeing each other at breakfast before David were off to school. At 25, they had a dinner with The Durhams, and her mother-in-law had asked if it wasn't time for them to have a child and had stated that Mary after all wasn't getting any younger, and one look at each other and they both knew they had to do it one more time, even if neither of them wanted to repeat it and go through the same horrific months where they barely talked or looked at each other. But once was enough, and Mary became pregnant. |

○ P R O P E R
Adj. | prop-er | prop-er conforming to established standards of behavior or manners; Mary has majority of her life been taught to conform to whatever standard of behavior that society is expecting from her, this means that she is incredibly proper in behavior. You won't see her raise her voice, you won't see her speak over a man, you won't see her flaunt her opinion on financial og political subjects, you won't find her taking an education, you won't find her doing anything that doesn't fit perfectly with what is expected of her as a perfect housewife. |
○ R E G A L
Adj. | ree-guhl | ree-guhl stately; splendid. Mary has a particularly way of carrying herself, that people say reminds them of the way a queen or a king would carry them. She always a straight back, good posture and her chin raised in a way where she is both overlooking everyone else and being on their level at the same time. Her husband has teasingly referred to her as his Queen several times, because he thought she always acted and behaved as someone who should have lived in a castle somewhere instead of with him. She's also incredibly good natured and humble, in a way that makes her automatically give out charity even if nobody has asked her to do it, it just falls naturally to her to help those in need. |

○ E M P A T H I C
Adj. | em-puh-thet-ik | em-puh-thet-ik the psychological identification with the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of others: Mary is a natural born empath, who ever since she has little has felt others pain as if it was her own. When she was in kindergarten and other kids fell and got upset, she would feel it as her own emotion and start crying along with them. She not only feels others emotions, but she also understand emotions on a level that regular people wouldn't, it's almost as if reading a book that she has already read a thousand times before opening it to read it again. She understand how each emotion works, and she always knows just what to say to the persone experiencing that emotion. |
○ C A L M
Adj. | kahm | kahm free from excitement or passion; tranquil: Mary is incredibly calm to be around, and is insanely well in control of her own emotions. You won't ever find her yelling, raising her voice, snapping nor crying in your presence, it just doesn't happen. In many ways she is almost like a painting in a gallery, she's pretty to look at and there is many things to uncover about her, but it will always remain in the same place, never moving or change, always the same. This either something most people consider a good quality in her, or something that bores them, but for someone who has a storm inside them she is everything, as she calms it down instantly. |
|
|LIE DETECTOR|
The power to detect lies. Mary has ever since she was born been capable of knowing when somebody is lying. She didn't know this was something only she could do, until she was older and she also started noticing how much people really did lie. To her this ability appears as a ringing in her ears, whenever a lie is being told. The ringing intensifies when the lie becomes bigger, so if it's a little white lie being told she only gets a faint ringing in her ears, but if something major is being lied about the ringing becomes so strong that it turns into a headache for her. Because of this ability she really doesn't do well with liars, and you will often find her shifting focus to someone else if she is in a conversation where lies are being told, because too many of them give her too much of a headache and she can't stand to be around it.
|TRUTH INDUCEMENT|
The ability to force a person to tell the truth. This is a nifty little ability she has, but particularly enough she doesn't use it that often. Much like the charm-speaking ability, the ability comes into play when a tone of her voice changes and if you know she has the ability you will often be able to tell when she is using it. Is she capable of making almost anyone confess to what's really on their minds, and admit to their lies. The only people immune to her abilities are does immune to mental-powers in general.
|EMPATH|
The power to fully interpret and replicate the emotions, moods, and temperaments of others. Mary is a low-grade empath, which more or less means that she often feels others emotions as if they were her own, and is capable of completely understanding how someone else is feeling despite having never been in the situation on her own. However because Mary is a low-grade empath she is not capable of manipulating emotions, nor taking them away from those in pain, but it still gives her an advantage of being incredible to have around if you're in need of someone who truly understands your pain. There is no one greater than her to talk to. |
