The Palas family have been proud members of high society ever since coming over to the new world shortly after its colonization. Prominent supporters of the Revolution, the Palas were well situated to earn themselves a critical position in the young nation's legal profession. Of course, that was all generations ago, and the Palas have long since learned that it is often best to rule from the shadows. So those in the know will go to the circumspect and almost humble offices of Palas, Broom, and Stern, but the layperson will walk by, dismissing the surely dusty offices as nothing more than a long-forgotten scion holding on to long-faded glory.

Now discretion is the watchword, any client of Palas, Broom, and Stern, LLP, are afforded tremendous services for the price of the retainer. Generations of America's wealthiest and most powerful have been faithfully served by members of the Palas family. And so we come to the eldest child of Stuart and Matilda Palas: Miranda Owena Palas. Named for her grandmother and grandfather, Miranda was raised to be the heir of the family, to one day take her place at the head of the Board of Directors for the family Firm. She would care for her younger siblings, be expected to place them in positions of power, to direct her own children, and those of her siblings and cousins to yet more positions. She would grow the family as her father, and grandmother, and so on had done for generations. The Eldest was a ruler but trapped on the throne.

Miranda rebelled in the only way she could, by being loud. Her teen and twenties featured piercings, tattoos, and reckless abandon. Yet always behind her was her father, cleaning her messes with silent understanding. Miranda has wished to hate her father, to hate her family for what is demanded, but no one understands the pressure being put on her better than her father, and so the two are close in spite of the incredible strain on them. Miranda is close to all her family, her six younger siblings, her cousins, uncles, and aunts, the Palas clan is close-knit and Miranda knows them all.

Miranda calmed down a lot after a scare, where her behavior nearly caused her younger brother to fall from grace, seeing that she had to set an example, she reformed her ways, aced the LSAT and graduated top of her class from Yale University Law School. Miranda can never be anything but herself, but she has chosen to embrace her family's demands, at least for now. She retains wild independence in her dress and who she chooses to take to bed but has found frustratingly little reaction from her family in regard to either of these choices.

Miranda is only recently returned to the dating world, though she's had many partners over the years, none were anything more than flings, and it has been almost a decade since she last took anyone to bed seriously. She's had several escorts to satisfy her carnal desires but has been so focused on becoming the best lawyer and leader she could, that she's had no time for romance since.

So now Miranda has little left to prove and must now turn her eyes towards actually functioning as a human being for an extended period. No more dozens of cases to slave over, no more prizes to win. Now she retreats to the shadows of her family table, to learn how to rule with a delicate hand.

Miranda, as a person, is passionate, but reserved; quick to action, but slow to judge. She is capable of analyzing a situation quickly and identifying the best means to conclude a crisis, but without that pressure, she tends towards almost stagnant indecision. She is almost always found with a long thin Cigar in her mouth, unlit for when she is inside and lit the moment she reaches the city air. She can appear cold and aloof to most, as she sizes a situation up, and given that she is usually called into the middle of a burgeoning crisis, few ever see any other side of her.

Miranda's vices include smoking and Alcohol, usually paired, usually in excessive amounts when available. Miranda has long since come out to her family and found nothing but support for her decision. She is still expected to one day bear or have borne new heirs for the family, new blood to run the empire, and is still expected to aid her siblings and cousins efforts to do the same, this usually takes the form of frequent meetings with cousins and siblings seeking advice, and regular family dinners, at least twice a week.
