Sølvi Nyström

There is a popular legend amongst the natives of Iceland. According to them, during one of the worst storms in living memory, a Viking took his heavily pregnant wife to the summit of Hvannadalshnúkur so she could give birth to their child under the watch of the Mountain Goddess; Skaði. The legend then states that Skaði was so impressed by this act of bravery and devotion that she blessed the child with many gifts and bestowed upon it a destiny of greatness.

The events of this legend are said to have taken place over a thousand years ago, but that somehow the blessed child will return and stop the "great destruction". No details are given as to what this destruction will be, but the most common theory is that it will be some kind of plague or war created by modern society and that the child's gifts will allow her to put an end to it before life as we know it is ended. Little do they know that the legend is actually true.

The child that was born atop Hvannadalshnúkur was Sølvi Nyström. After she was born, her parents took her back to their village and announced to the clan that the Goddess Skaði had blessed their daughter and that she was to be protected at all costs. Growing up, Sølvi was made aware of her important part in this world, and in a sense, it really robbed her of having a real childhood. Her father would make her spend her time trying to perfect her abilities.


When she was fourteen, the village Sølvi called home was attacked and raided by a clan of Vikings from Norway. She bore witness to the complete and utter destruction of her home and the people she'd grown up with. At that moment, she believed she had failed to fulfil her destiny that the Goddess Skaði had bestowed upon her, that the "great destruction" she was meant to stop was that of her village. It was then that Sølvi lost all faith in herself.

Following the massacre of her village, she and several other women were taken by the invading clan and shipped across the seas to Norway. Upon their arrival, the women were distributed amongst the various Vikings that murdered their families. Sølvi was given to Bjørn Askelson, a man who held much wealth and authority amongst his clan. On her first night in this new land, Sølvi was raped and beaten within an inch of her life, to teach her what her place was.

For the next fifteen years, Sølvi was nothing more than a breeding mare for the Viking who now owned her. She had four children; Astrid, Erik, Sigrid and Torsten, and they were the only reason why she didn't kill herself. Her hopes were that one day she might be able to flee with her children and start a new life. Unfortunately, that was not meant to be. One night, a passing clan of Vikings invaded. They killed Sølvi's husband and two sons, while her daughters was taken.


After tracking down the people that had stolen her daughters from her, only to discover that Astrid and Sigrid had killed themselves to avoid the same fate as her mother, Sølvi devoted herself to tracking down each and every member of that clan to kill them. It took thirty years, but she had not aged a single day since she lost everything. For the men who she hunted down, it was almost like seeing a ghost. She took pleasure in killing them, and she made sure to make them suffer. Each man was sacrificed to the Gods in a rather barbaric ritual.

Over a thousand years later, Sølvi roams the world without purpose. She doesn't know who she is or what she wants, nor what she is meant to do in this life. Most of her days are spent in isolation, where she makes her home in the caverns within mountains similar to the one she was born on. Ever since her children were lost, she has not allowed anyone to get close to her and she has spent every day blaming herself for everything that has happened since then.

However, more recently, she has considered delving into necromancy to see if there is any way she can either commune with, or bring her children back from the dead. While she knows there will be consequences and a price for her actions if there is a way, she is more than willing to pay it if doing so will allow her to get more time with her children. Doing so could send her down a dark path from which she may never find her way back. But in her mind, it does not matter. This is her one goal, her one wish.
