The Golden Tether |
Verpa was born of fire -- shaped and crafted, rather than conceived. Baphomet made an incubus in his own image, and gave him a name. He was gifted, and lived comfortably for years at the heels of his master. With time came devotion, and with devotion came jealously. Desperate, Verpa pleaded with Baphomet - begging him for love that he knew was not only impossible, but disgraceful. Outraged, the great lord banished his favored incubus -- sending him through a mirror to serve mortal men. "Aquila non capit muscas." He ended up quite by accident in Lebanon, but it wasn't long before he was sold into slavery and happened upon his first master, Alanister. For twenty five years, he served his master -- learning to dance, to bow, and even to captivate. Verpa learned that keeping his head down meant never being cast aside again. So when the ailing Alanister caught his slave in bed with his oldest son, the lord became furious - and even threatened to have Verpa destroyed before he died, mysteriously, in his sleep. Verpa changed hands, and was eventually sold to The Golden Tether. He has since been freed from his life as a slave, and is a retired Entertainer. He can most often be found wandering the Main Hall. |

Effects & Abilities Prolonged exposure to Verpa could result in any or all of the following:
Night Terrors or Sleep Paralysis Insomnia Extreme to Acute Lethargy He survives by borrowing energy from his hosts, much like a parasite. Once he's chosen a host, it's difficult for him to uproot and borrow from others in a hurry. He can also feed off of very strong emotions - something called projection. It goes hand in hand with very acute empathetic ability; this helps him read people and relate to them, even though he wouldn't ordinarily be able to. It also makes him a fairly keen liar, and changes his personality very, very slightly depending on the company he keeps. |
