"My grandmother, she uh... she used to tell me these bedtime stories. Where she uh... she walked home from the city and saw shapes flying over our house, and from the window she could see me inside. Yeah, heh... watching the cartoons on the floor... while the creature sat in the crack between the ceiling and the fireplace. Just staring I guess, yeah..."

- "And how do you feel about these "stories" she told you? Do you remember your time with her from your early childhood?"

"No, not really to be honest. Sometimes I forget about her completely, as if she never really even existed. It's only when someone asks about her that I can recall her voice telling me all this stuff. I was a damn toddler anyways, what do you expect?"

- "Do you remember anything from living in [Redacted]? I'm certain that you have at least something to tell me?"

"... "

- "Lieutenant?"

"... Nah. Just a creepy old place."

Beginning of a Career

- "... And why the army, Lieutenant?"

"Hmh, after uni life seemed kind of pointless to be honest, I wasn't the type of guy to settle for some kind of peaceful civilian job and heh... I know even you couldn't picture me with a clean suit and a tie. Always held the principle that the dirtier the boots the better... I guess that's just how I was raised - I only feel satisfied when I see the work being hammered into shape with my own damn fists. You know who my dad was, right? Yeah, and when I came across my local recruiter it just sort of clicked in my head... that or I just ate the bullshit hook, line, and sinker. Never regretted it though."

- "And... now?"

"Now? Well, ever since [Redacted] passed away and left me with the kids, things have been a bit complicated. You know, seeing how this new line of work tends to legally bind you inside four concrete walls unless you are ferried across the planet on ehh... business trips. Now don't get me wrong, serving the foundation is far more important than my personal bullshit, but...

... The kids have seen their dad once... and that's all they might ever get... "

- "And about those kids, Lieutenant, here it says that you have two daughters. Is this correct?"

"Yeah, that's correct. Twin girls."

- "You've seen them once you said? Would you consider yourself close with them?"

"That's true, I've seen them alright. When they were at the birthing center."

- "Ah, I see. We both know that you won't be seeing them much now, Lieutenant. How do you feel about that?"

"Hm... well, we both know that I ain't going to be here forever either. One day, when all of this is behind me, I will drive all the way back to catch up with them... ask if they already have their boyfriends or... girlfriends or whatever. And then... yeah, and then I'll take them hunting with their dad."

- "The containment was breached half an hour ago, you along with a detachment of Mother Mare will likely be deployed within the day. Lieutenant, you know as well as I do that the chances of this being your final deployment are high. Did you... submit your testament?"

"You mean did I recycle the same old piece of paper like I do every time? Yeah, yeah I did. Even remembered to change the dates from the previous one this time, too."

- "Alright, good... good. There will be no alcohol involved in the aftermath this time either, right Lieutenant? Do I need to make an appointment with your therapist before the expedition is officially greenlit?

"Nah, don't strain yourself. The last thing I need before checking for monsters under people's beds is some condescending shrink probing my head as if he knows my shit better than me. Mother 1-1 is ready for deployment."

- "Naturally, Lieutenant."

"Heh... try finding anything natural about this."
