Light Raygun

Introduction

Cris is one of my oldest and most developed RP characters. I used to play her extensively on a (now exinct) roleplaying board, an offshoot 'verse inspired on the Pixar movie "WALL-E".

Cris started off merely as an "author avatar" with my screen name in a series of chat-style forum games; it wasn't until well into 2010 that she was fleshed out and became a real character. Her first incarnation was inspired heavily by Sirius Black from the "Harry Potter" franchise, but in 2016 she got a major new story arc based off Jim Hawkins from "Treasure Planet"; she went from generic freedom fighter to anticonformist pirate, fell in love, and became the doting mother of two (later three) children. From then on, nothing was ever the same again!

As you can surmise, I've poured a lot of work and energy in building this character. Not all her past can be referenced here, because a lot relies on characters played by other people; I will, however, try to make her profile as complete and hopefully accessible as is within my power. Just bear with me as I dig in over ten years worth of roleplaying and character building! There's a lot still unearth, so these pages will be Work In Progress for a while longer. Sometimes, when having to go undercover, she has used the aliases Rose Bonham or Cris Fox. Appearance

Height: 5'4'' (1,63 m)
Built: She is very graceful with a hourglass figure that veers just so slightly toward pear-shaped due to her full hips (particularly after three childbirths, but she was on the curvaceous side even prior to that). Although outwardly she comes off as just an unassuming pretty high-society girl, she's actually a lot more nimble than her looks might induce to think. Her lightning fast reflexes amd her formidable prowess compensate her soft and delicate appearance, which she often uses to her advantge as it allows her to catch her opponents by surprise with a formidable roundhouse kick when they're least expecting it. She weights approximately 116 lbs (53 kg).
Hair: Her hair is a very dark brown and falls in soft waves to her mid-back. She wears it loose, with a full fringe parted to the side, and a rose (usually red unless the situation is a sad or mournful one) tucked in it.
Eyes: Large, almond shaped and a striking dark brown in color. Cris always wears blue-tinted, visor-like glasses to correct a slight short-sightedness (a condition that she was born with and that her bio-sire didn't have genetically corrected).
Facial features: In public, her face is always virtually covered by the mask and rumored to be grotesquely disfigured underneath. The truth however is quite different; Cris has an ordinary heartshaped face with slightly upturned nose, softly pointy chin and full pink lips.
Skintone: Ivory.
Scars: She has a thin oblong scar on her right cheek that was given to her "in warning", when she tried to take her ex-Captain's knife without permission, and a series of long slashes on her back from the time she was attacked by a snow leopard anthro.
Voice: Her voice is clear, silvery and sounds very youthful. She has an especially endearng laugh, similar to silver bells, but she rarely laughs nowadays. Most of the times, Cris's tone is impassive and betrays no trace of her thoughts; any clues as to what she might be thinking can be surmised more easily from the expression of her eyes, rather than from her voice.
Voice claim: Alessia Amendola.
Scent: Cris's scent is a mix of rose fragrances with intense fruity notes, especially strawberry and sour cherry. Because roses have always been her favorite flowers, she tends to prefer this flavor for a variety of products ranging from cosmetics, skincare, hairstyle, perfumed candles and laundry detergent. An occasional touch of cinnamon spices it up, and very often (especially in the mornings) there will be additional coffee aroma about her.
Items: In public, Cris is never seen without an intricately decorated kitsune mask that completely covers her visage, leaving only her eyes visible. The "official version" is that she wears it to conceal some grotesque scarring she sustained in her pirate days and which has left her unable to breath without a crudely built-in respirator; in truth, she started wearing the mask so there would be no direct questioning as to what her husband might look like under his own - since she was known to be a human all along - and she'll claim to her last living breath, to anyone but her best friend Damien and the anthros who knew her husband from "birth" (like Burt and Daren), that their children's fox-like appearance was genetically designed by her own request, rather than inherited from their father. The mask is not merely decorative but equipped with hi-tech add-ons that are valuable help in her vigilante work (see below in "Equipment")
Outfit: Although her fashion change has changed considerably over the years, nowadays Cris wear long kimonos in colors of white and red, sometimes accented with warm crimson and touches of silverly-grey. In crowded events she will almost always add a pair of white gloves to her attire, concealing shivs for personal safety purposes. Her choice to embrace the Japanese fashion is reflected on vigilante duty too, with the pale kimonos and kitsune mask giving her an almost ghostly appearance as she stalks criminals in the night. On patrol, however, she will also add a bulletproof Kevlar nagabujan (the traditional kimono's undergarment). Ironically, because her new appearance has become so iconic, she'll hang out in ordinary and unassuming clothes, with hair pulled back and without mask, only when she doesn't want to be recognized. Which is the true face and which is the mask? That's a darn good question with this lady.
Weapons: A life spent on various sides of battlefield has taught Cris the importance of weapons, especially when you're in the position to have enemies - and, of those, she has no shortage. When on vigilante patrols, her arsenal include one or two katanas strapped to her back, a sai knife, a series of shurikens that she conceals in the obi sash of her kimono, and a shoulder-holstered pistol. Occasionally, she might feel inclined to increase the fire power and bring along the raygun that he used in her ol' pirate days, and which she always kept as a memento. In her everyday attire she might keep the shurikens, as well a conceal shivs in her gloves. All her weapons are cutomized for maximum efficiency, just like her mask (see "Equipment" below).

Met him and his jerboa friend while I was out on duty. He's less talkative, but you can tell he's also a keen observer and strategist. Survival must not have been easier for them than for several other furfolks I've met; hope he and his pal stay in touch...

They are clearly in dire conditions, but because of tge tremendous pain they are clearly experiencing they may lash out in fear, so must be aoproached cautiously. *sigh* If only I could do something to help them...

Pets (in arrival order)

Phillip - m, Tamagotchi goldfish, named after her late uncle Jean-Philippe. He "died" of neglect when the device broke down and couldn't be restarted. Cris, still a kid at the time, refused to respawn him and instead threw the device in a water cleaning facility's tanks - because "all drains lead to the sea".
Nano - m, Animatronic chihuahua (long coat) but with Shiba Inu markings, older - MIA. Cris "rescued" him from a store in her first act as a pirate, and they were inseparable ever since. Nano disappeared some time after Cris's husband also went missing; despite all her attempts to find him, the diminutive but fierce Chihuahua hasn't turned up, and has been missing for over a year now.
Joy - f, Animatronic border collie, puppy. She was a "peace offering" from Cris's old pirate Captain, in the hope that the puppy would calm down her belligerent streak. Hyperactive, playful and fun loving, Joy comes from a puppy line, meaning she's staying forever a pup both in size and personality.
Nameless piranhas* - various gender; she eventually realized that she was too unexperienced at the time to keep pets that were breeding so much, and gave up their custody to an aquarium specialized in the preservation of exotic sea life. Sometimes she still visits - but has no way to know which are "her" piranhas (or their descendants) after so long time.
Biff - m, Australian Huntsman spider - lived to an outstanding 4 years and recently died of old age.
Nerissa - f, Forest scorpion - adult/middle aged (4 years old). One of the pets Cris and her husband acquired during their pirate years, a gift of Cris after finding out that her husband as a kid would have wanted a pet scorpion. After her husband's disappearance, Nerissa followed Cris throufh all her later moves and shehanigans, sometimes to the curiosity of her landlords and flatmates who were not familiar with such exotic and unusual animals being kept as pets.
Nomby - m, Black Mamba - adult (4 years old). The last pet that Cris and her husband adopted when still living as pirates, he went with Cris when she quit the crew to move in her mountain cabin and, later, she took Nomby along wherever else she's lived. He got his name when Chiara, who was just learning to speak at the time Nomby joined the family, couldn't pronounce "black mamba" correctly; her parents agreed that the name was adorable and decided to keep it for him.
Badzooka Jr - m, King Cobra - snakelet (weeks to months old). As the only baby pet that Cris got to raise literally from hatching, he also has a variety of nicknames that he goes by; Little Prince, Piccolo (from Piccolo Principe, italian for "little prince), BJ (which she thinks are just the initials for Badzooka Jr), Junior, and Mini Badzooka.

(* The first batch of piranhas actually had names. Cris had called them Amber, Genevieve, Jacqueline, David, Anthony and Nemo. After they started reproducing, however, it became impossible to keep track of all their offsprings, and before long they had all grown to look indistinguishable from their parents.)

If you've kept an eye on the news, you might have come across the name of "Light Raygun". This solo space-pirate got herself quite a reputation for being a wild card, a maverick who would rob fuel stations and vanish leaving behind arsons with her blazing name tag - and yet for all her wild and "crazy" stunts, the casualty count was always on zero. A pirate without a crew, with a strict code of honor, but still crazy by her own admission and all the more unpredictable for it.

After a while, news about her became kinda contradictory and hazy. For about a year she joined one of the most feared ships of cut-throats and destroyers in the vast universe, though rumors have it that even in their ranks she never once shot to kill. Others claim she became the lover of a dreaded assassin who taught her the ways of swordfighting and ninjutsu. But it wasn't long before she went back to be a "wild dog" all on her own.

Nowadays her apparitions are fleeting; some even believe she might have retired for good while other claims to see her hand behind the occasional vigilante work that gets done here and there, the randomic shootout between thugs, or the unexplainable bank robbery.

Whether she's really more out and about than anyone thinks, or just letting her old career become a legend that's going to outlive her, remains a mystery to which few - if any - might find an answer.

The (un)famous Light Raygun was born Cristina Di Ventimiglia, daughter and scion of an ultra-wealthy family of high socialites with ties ingovernment, banks and megacorporations. Her bio-sire, Demetrio, is the famed LuxCo's Vice-CEO - but the majority of her family's standing comes from her mother's side; the Aliprandi Clan, a line of ancient Italian nobles counting both nobiliar titles and unbound wealth.

Because her mother was Count Anastasio's favorite child, Cris was destined from birth to be the next heir of the Clan's fortune. She grew up surrounded by luxury and grandeur, but knowing little or no affection beyond the empty and meaningless gifts she received at every occasion. She desperately longed for emotional attachment, but her demanding and frivolous family was only interested with appearance, politics and their own riches. By constantly demanding that Cris acted like a lady in the making, and bringing her up as an example, her grandmother Isabella also managed to pit her older cousin, Silvana, up against her. Demetrio and Astoria, Cris's parents, were always too busy to pay attention to their daughter. No one cared if she woke up crying after a bad dream, couldn't do homeworks alone or even just needed a hug. Cris grew up a loner, jaded and disillusioned, wishing only for the achingly unattainable chance to flee high society so that she could lead a happy life away from its stifling, overbearing shadow. As she herself says, "Sometimes I felt like our old cook-bot Antoine and my robot nanny were my kin in a truer sense than they who bore me."

By the time she hit her teens, years of bottled-up frustration and recklness finally reached the breaking point. After she learned about some very shady and illicit business in which her father was personally involved, Cris joined forces out of spite with a band of anarchists and freedom fighters known as the Defiant Citizens. Not only this felt like personal atonement for the crimes of her family, but it also gave her something to believe in; a fairer, more just society in which even the rights of minorities were respected, where she could fight head-on against oppressions and abuses. For her determination, she was given the code name of Pasionaria. During the following three years she was able to smuggle top-secret information from her father's desk to her fellow accolades under his nose. Even the boring high societies parties that she had so dreaded were now the opportunity to scry on the secret business of her father and other equally corrupt political figures.

Yet all good things come to an end. The day of her graduation, Cris was finally brought up with charges of high treason; at only eighteen, that made her one of the most dangerous spies on the social radar. Her father Demetrio disowned her, and would have her executed without appeal; the Aliprandi Clan, in turn, were quick to lay the responsibility on his disappointing parenting skils, and thoroughly disinterested themselves with her fate. Getting out with her life only thanks to the valiant sacrifice of her robot friend Zorro, Cris ran away from her home in New Cheyne City and embraced an outlaw existence under the new guise of Light Raygun. A solo pirate with a strict no-kill policy, she swore loyalty to no leader, carried out raids and sabotage missions on her own and had the reputation of being quite wild and uncontrollable. Several of the skills that would become her trademark in the criminal underworld scene were also perfectioned during the time she spent alongside her partner-in-crime, Damien Chase, from which she learned much and who remains a close friend of hers even in present days -- one who never fails to bring some solace into her life. Another acquaintance that she'd cherish over the years was Zephyr, a tech expert who was able to translate her wild ideas into badass weapons and gadgets sturdy enough to resist Cris's sadly famous incompetence with electronic devices.

Goaded by a pirate Captain that she had idolized in her teens to infiltrate his archenemy's blood-thirsty and ruthless crew, Cris was quick to rose to the challenge in order to prove her worth, with more stubborness than good sense. What she hadn't taken into account was that she'd actually come to respect her new crew - atrocious as they could be sometimes - to the point where she'd spend the best part of two years in their ranks. Yet in many ways she remained always the odd fish out, sticking to maim and disarm but never to kill (something the fiendish crew's barber, Todd, never failed to point out).

Cris's life was changed forever when she fell deeply and passionately in love with the crew's assassin, a mysterious ninja with an obscure past. Taking her in as both his lover and apprentice, he tutored her in the use of blades as well as in the skills of a kunoichi. Even if she never left corpses in her tray, she was formidable with weapons and with her born talent for theft, raiding and sabotage she could easily hold ground with her more violent crewmates. Her reputation in the criminal underworld continued to fluorish, especially after she dueled against the old pirate Captain who had all but tossed her off to the sharks. Cris thought that defeating the man who had sent her to die would prove her worth; it wasn't until later that she found out her lover had secretly rigged the duel, asking the old Captain to go easy on her. Even if she tried to make light of it, being lied to by the love of her life was shattering. Even more, the first seeds of self-doubt and worthlessness were planted in heart.

After the birth of her daughter Chiara, and after finding out that she was expecting a second baby, Cris eventually decided to resign. For a while she'd fall back into her old "solo pirate" habit, yet embracing a much more strong Japanese influence; for example, concealing her face with a traditional kitsune (fox) mask and wearing kimonos. It's unclear if these changes were meant to reflect her relationship with her ninja lover, or if she was merely drawn to a different culture. Although she mostly stuck to raids and thievery to support herself, her daughter, and her unborn baby boy Reyn, soon she had to come to terms with a harsh truth; only wealth and social standing could ensure protection and a secure life for her children.

The epiphany was nothing short of harrowing. Moving to live in a little lakeside cabin in the fictional countepart to Lake Braies, in South Tyrol, Cris devoted herself body and soul to her new family. She and her loved planned to live off her paintings and his wood-carvings, trading goods and wares with the nearby villagers and growing old together. But shortly thereafter, an insanely high bounty was placed on her husband's head, and as soon as the holographic poster with th ebounty reached the nearby village, it was just a matter of hours. Hunted down by a team of heavily armed lumberjacks, Cris fled the cabin on the lake with her baby daughter Chiara in her arms; although they both survived, the traumatic memories still haunt mother and daughter alike, and Cris has not returned to the lake ever since. In the end, she and her husband saw no other alternative than to abandon pirate life altogether to seek shelter in that selfsame high society from which Cris had run away. After hastily marrying in Japan, the crestfallen couple returned to New Cheyne City.

Although her father would not have her back, the Aliprandi Clan proved somewhat more forgiving - if nothing else because Cris was the only heir to have actually produced children who would carry on the family name and inherit their wealths and titles. If the kids fox-like traits raised some eyebrows, Cris was quick to shoot down objections when she claimed full responsibility for having them genetically engineered in-utero. But even though Count Anastasio accepted her apology, it was her husband that he reinstated with the title of Lord and future Heir Heritage; Cris was merely a plus-one who just so happened to share the Clan's blood.

Eventually, peer pressure soon threatened to overcome the couple, and when Cris's husband came down with a severe depression, they officially decided to take a break from social life and diseappear from radar for a while. The truth, however, was slightly different. Their wedding was falling apart, and after a particularly heated argument at Halloween, Cris's husband announced that he wanted a divorce and that it was entirely her fault if their story was over. Lost and confused as to what she had done wrong, Cris never doubted for a moment that he had to be right; clearly she must have been a terrible spouse and a terrible parent if she could turn off even the man who loved her to the moon and back.

For months, she dared not take custody of her children, leaving them in their father's care even as she pined for them, sleepless night after sleepless night. In the end, she told her husband that she'd be taking over the kids as he lived his life and tried to figure himself out. Hope briefly flared that things might return to normal when the couple met again and managed to reconcile... but even as their love for each other swept once more, Cris couldn't shake the feeling that it wouldn't last and that he would change his mind again. Not wishing to shackle him, she was supportive of her husbad's decision to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Even if they weren't living physically together, they called each other every day, and it seemed that their new long-distance relationship could thrive.

Shortly after, Cris found out that she was pregnant again after the brief time they spent together. Before she could figure how to break the news to her husband, things took an even worse turn; from one day to another his communicator went dead, and as hours and days stretched into weeks, she started to dread that something wrong must have happened to him. Cris desperately wanted to go look for him, but she did not dare endanger herself and the baby on the way, having repeteadly vowed to her husband that she'd stay safe. Eventually, she was found in her new retreat by her grandfather, who took her back to the Clan.

Terrified that the Clan would take advantage of her new pregnancy to separate her from the baby at birth, Cris hid her conditions from everyone, even if she appeared increasingly ill at ease and unwell. As if this wasn't bad enough, a battle of wills started between her and Count Anastasio. Her grandfather made it clear that he expected her to move on from the loss, and started looking right away for potential new suitors that he could entrust with the title of Lord. Cris could sense the trap closing around her; if she had refused to marry, or mourned her husband openly for the world to see, her grandfather would make a case of her coming down with depression and being too emotionally unfit to also take on the responsability of raising two young children, he'd seize custody from her, and she'd be locked forever in some backwater place, to never see her kids again. Brimming with hatred, but determined to not let grandfather write her out of her children's life, Cris squared her shoulder, played her part, and became ice permanently in the world of high society.

Some months later, she left for a quick "retreat" in one of the many family mansions, only to return with her tiny newborn girl, Rosalba, in her arms. The Clan was affronted, but Cris's move had been too swift and there was nothing they could do but accept it. With unusual firmness she claimed back her place in business, wanting above all to secure a better future for her children. She now keeps a firm hold on her shares of the Clan's fortune, while also pretending to play along with her grandfather's plans of remarrying her - while, in truth, she's undermining all the wannabe candidates presented to her, whether by exposing them as fortune hunters and scammers or by pointing out other ways in which they might be unsuitable additions to the Aliprandi Clan. Outside of work, however, the relationship between Cris and her blood relatives can be only described as distant.

Secretly, she also returned to some small-time vigilante work in her old Light Raygun guise. Thriving to assist minorities in distress, underdogs, and the victims of abuse, she brings down hell on large-scale crime rings and patrols the streets, wanting nothing more than to make the world in which her children will grow up a safer place, as much as it's within her power to do so. With the help of some old pals from the Defiants, she has also been trying to find out the truth about her husband's disappearance and whether he might be still alive; if her efforts have been futile so far, Cris just shrugs it off and keeps looking for clues.

She lives in a large mansion with her children, their android nanny Martin, her great-grandmother Carlotta Di Ventimiglia (Demetrio's grandmother, who was disowned - like Cris herself - with charges of dementia) and the latter's caretaker, Emily Bonham, Cris's "adopted mother" (and former Defiant Citizen comrade) who was actually her father's jilted bride.
