The Shivering Girl

After a tragic incident, Ethel has found herself trapped in the world of a ghost girl. A ghost girl that, well - despises being a ghost. There's just something about being dead that has never felt natural - cold, empty, and most of all... boring. Ethel yearns for the days of her youth spent alive and warm, before the weight of the meaningless existence this Earthly purgatory would bring.
 
 
 
Soon the rumors would spread - urban rumors suggesting the very bar was haunted. This hearsay spread fast, and even happened to draw more curious patrons in search of "The Shivering Girl," as the consensus had named her. Ethel's only solace for the countless time spent in human-purgatory had been challenged with "stupid rumors of some stuuuhpid ghost-" as she would put it.

As time went on, connections with humans became more ephemeral. She could never find it within herself to see her reflection behind a living human's eyes as she explained to them that, well - she was very well the rumored dead.

There was no pulling her from the depths of the underworlds alike Hercules and Megara to save her worldly existence.
Death is death, and so that way she was to remain. Ethel couldn't come back to life, no -- at least that's what Death had told her. After all, her vessel was no longer her body, but now a decomposed collection of nothingness and marrow six feet underneath the ground.

It is clear that Death's job comes in high demand, and rarely does he ever have time for "janitorial work," as he cares to refer to the organizing of lost souls. With Ethel's inability to move on and accept her premature departure, along with her lingering energy clouding places reserved for living human souls - has made her subject to pursuing studies of the afterlife alongside other mythics and cryptids against her will. A building repurposed for every naive Misfit which makes it to this realm. Classes covering all facets of the afterworld tailored by more understanding and powerful beings for ghostlings and the inexperienced to navigate this often overwhelming new plane of existence.

And much to Death's annoyance (and to add to his ever-growing workload) the truancy of these transient spirits are his issue. He can't just have a bunch of wayward spirits treating the living world as a personal playground until the end of time, after all. It turns out purgatory rarely has vacancy, Ethel is at least glad that isn't her problem. But it just might be, to whoever that is unfortunate enough to be assigned to her.
