TRAGEDY
IN THE FAMILY ___________________________________________ Joseph McKinnon comes from a tragic background. Most demigods have one, they all struggle, but his in particular is that of tragic books, movies, poems. Joseph was born to an italian mother in Los Angeles, California. She had fallen in love with a dark figure who had enchanted her completely. He dissapeared soon after, but not before he left her pregnant with Joe. His mother was rather young at the time, just turned eighteen, and was out of a roman catholic family, who immediatly disowned her for having had a child outside of marriage and for having been so young. At the time she had considered aborting Joe, just to save herself and have better oppurtunities in life, she had almost made it into the clinic with her mother, before she decided against it. She had Joe on a lonely september day, in a motel she had rented for the time being. From day one she struggled, she had bills from the hospital, bills from the motel, bills everywhere. She loved her boy, there was no doubt about it - she pastered him with love whenever she could, kissed his forehead, hugged him tight, anything affectionate she could - but she lived in the reality of sooner or later she would end up on the street with her child, and if she did he would taken away. Over the course of his toddler years, his mothers mental health decreased significantly. She worked overtime, not only to pay bills for a crappy one room apartment in Los Angeles, but also for daycare who could look after her son while she struggled to bring food on the table or keep a roof over his head. Whenever she was home, which wasn't much, she was practically non responsive, like she was there but not really. He could wave hands in front of her, and it was like she didn't even see him.
“QUOTE.”
— Nikki Rowe It all came to a halt one day, when she happily picked him up from daycare and declared they were going to the promenade in Santa fe. They drove there, took a couple of hours, they played music loud from the speakers and sang along to David Bowie like there was no tomorow. He was four at the time, and he remember having looked at her and thought she was finally her, she was his mother again. They arrived at the promenade, she bought him icecream, one that was larger than his head - one he had never gotten before because she thought it contained too much sugar. She sat him down on a bench and looked at him with a smile, and took of a necklace she had around her neck with a symbol on it and put it around his neck instead. "You know I love you little joe, right?" had she asked him, and he nodded willingly, never having doubted his mothers love. The next thing she told him was that he needed to finish his ice cream, and when he was done he should go back to the booth and tell the lady there to find her, and the next thing Joe knew his mother was gone in the crowd. But he did as she told, he finished his ice cream, went to the ice cream booth and told the lady to find his mother. Police arrived and they scoured the place for his mother, not being able to find her, and later on she was discovered at the shore, dead. She had jumped the fence of the promenade, and had fallen directly to her death. Joe spend a good year in fostercare, where he was one of fifteen children living there, he didn't like it. So one day he just packed his things up like a stubborn little five year old, and went wherever the roads took him. It was an abandoned house in the middle of a forrest, which later turned out to be The Wolf House. Joe has been at Camp Jupiter ever since he made his way there, and by the age of ten he was one of the most skilled fighters there, and by thirteen he was a Praetor. |
