Rai Mikoto

Rai's History

In a high fantasy set in fantasy Japan or something similar, Rai is born from an immigrant mother, Ada, who came from the Viking lands and had fallen in love with a storm deity, Susanoo. Ada was just very happy to have a child with someone she loved, not caring at all if the union was official or if Susanoo was exclusive to her, she understood that a deity like himself outlived mortals like her. But together they raised Rai. Susanoo made it a point to be involved and even named the child, Rai meaning lightning, thunder and trust however it is also a male name.

Rai spent a lot of time with both of her parents. Ada had learned the cuisine and customs of the land she resided in now and was able to teach some manners to Rai and also taught Rai how to cook since it seemed that Rai had a bit of an appetite especially after training. Ada also taught Rai her native tongue along with the customs and lore of her homeland. Rai liked hearing those tales but yet felt disconnected with that side of her line since she was constantly surrounded by her Father's culture and people. But Rai and Ada were close often together in market and leisurely places when Rai wasn't training. Even when learning that Rai had a sort of curse placed on her by Susanoo's sister due to a past wrong, Ada took it in stride and made sure to help her daughter when the curse shows itself.

Rai and her father Susanoo, Old Man, as she liked to call him have a sort of love and hate relationship. Susanoo was used to having sons to train and raise, but Rai was his first and only daughter. He at first wasn't sure how to approach this, whether to train her or not but after an incident involving a small platform and fire caused by lightning, he decided she needed to be trained. Of course having no experience in raising and training a daughter he stuck with what he knew, and that was just treated Rai like a son. Not really holding back or giving a moment's rest when they trained, but Rai never minded the harsh training she liked how she could feel herself get stronger and have more control over her abilities the more they trained. But her father had a bad habit of gambling for a deity who won almost every battle he fought, he tended to loose a lot when it came to games of luck. It was left to Ada and Rai to be the current ones to help pay off his debts, which left Rai feeling a bit resentful.

When Rai turned sixteen she had already decided what line of work she was going into. She didn't choose the food service profession that her mother worked, instead she had decided to take on dangerous jobs. She took jobs like hunting beasts terrorizing villages, being a body guard for an important figures, mercenary work, and almost any job involving a sword. Having faced vengeful dragons, huge beasts and even prideful warriors Rai made some good money, though most of it went to paying off the increasing debt from her father's gambling. But if she can take on the debt then her mother wouldn't have to worry about running her food stand and paying debts. Rai still travels all over the place looking for jobs to pay off the debts and to gain more fighting experience.
