A Man Raised to be a KnightAnd His Upbringing
In the year 203 P.L.C, on a stormy October evening, the young de Chauntiel couple, Raymore and Harrietta, were blessed by the grace of the lord. Fate had shined upon the wedded pair and gifted them the greatest gift any noble couple could wish for, a son. The wispy-haired babe was named Bastian after days of deliberation, and a grand feast was held in celebration of his birth.
By the age of two, young Bastian had begun his journey of mobility, feeling confident in each step he took. Sir Raymore, who had just recently taken up the mantle of Lord of Redburn, decided it was time to begin teaching his son the art of war. No real weapons were used until Bastian’s hands had grown enough to wrap around a blade, so the majority of his education had been from his father reading compendiums of warcraft to him before bed.
Soon enough, Bastian was cursed with the existence of two younger brothers, but he didn’t absolutely loathe them. All three boys got along relatively well, with the two older ones bonding the most over a shared love of combat. He wasn’t a terrible brother, so he did make sure to spend time with Pompel, even if it meant he had to subject himself to the torture of reading poetry.
When he turned ten, his father had sent him away from home to learn under another man, a man of no real noble recognition. What he lacked in title, he made up for in talent, which he made sure to pass onto the young de Chauntiel as per his father’s wishes.
It wasn’t until he was fourteen that Bastian would return home permanently, practically a new person entirely. His skills with the sword were unmatched for most around his age, and the spars with Arthur that used to pose a challenge in his days of youth were no longer anything that required true effort. Raymore was ecstatic, believing that his son was at the skill level to begin focusing on becoming knighted. He was assigned as his father’s squire, but it was purely out of title regulation.
The grind to become a knight was rigorous, taking up the majority of Bastian’s freetime. Mornings were the only moment in his day that he could relax and do what he wished. It helped spur his love for tea, which he began to drink regularly whenever he’d get out of bed.
At the age of seventeen, Bastian was called for an audience with the King and was granted knightship. He was sent to work in Mossley, to serve and aid the elderly Duke Edmund as he tried to quell a potential war of succession for his title.
Now, after serving the Duke of Mossley for five years, Bastian has finally been called back to Pallac, Vania's capital.

From a young age, Bastian always held himself in a high regard, believing himself to be a gentleman of the ages. Even as a rambunctious child, whenever he needed to interact with someone, he’d do so with polite language. He was viewed as a sweetheart, a lovable little boy, often finding himself popular with girls and doting mothers alike. Most times, he found himself talking to someone, whether it be a guard to his family’s manor, or a random stranger on the street. He was a social creature, there was no stopping it, even if his father insisted that one day he was going to talk to the wrong person. Bastian hardly ever has a bad word to say about someone unless they slight him, which was still very hard to accomplish.
His gregarious nature as a child only built the stepping stones to becoming a charming member of the royal court, who was quite popular for teasing the ladies of court with words only lest anything else be seen as scandalous. Only a few words would need to be shared for one to find themselves blushing, and he prided himself on that. When outside of court, he was… less gentlemanly, oftentimes managing to seduce a young lady of no real societal status in order to relieve himself of whatever necessary.
As a result of disciplined training on his father’s end, Bastian had managed to harbor a secret personality of sorts, something only meant for when he was on-duty in the castle. It was a stern, more stoic, appearance. He would smile, sure, but any carefree nature that he carried before would be gone until it was time for him to retire for the day. It helped him stay diligent and on top of his work, because what successful knight managed, well, success by shoving their pricks in whatever they could? Some might call him broody, but he didn’t mind.
Selfishness has always been something that plagued the eldest de Chauntiel boy. When he wanted something, like really wanted it, he would go to any length to get it. Bastian could technically be called a slave to his own desires, but he refused to admit it or show it. If he did anything that was more self-centered, he tried his best not to make a show of it.
