This deity is the shining beacon of hope, a symbol of peace for many of his worshippers. Though few have been in his presence, there are many written accounts of close encounters of the god. Many have been changed forever after meeting this savior of man, describing him as the vision of perfection personified. The warm and mystifying aura around the deity is enough to stifle a mere human. The tongue he speaks is simple but puzzling in nature. But the resolution in the way he speaks of becoming the true salvation of the world is enough to rouse anyone who listens. To evil, dissenters, he spares no mercy. But to those who are willing to bask in his glow... is named a friend.

☀
To deities of old, Eosphoros is the embodiment of ancient will given a corporeal form. The body he has now masquerades the heartlessness in the pursuit of completing his one true purpose.Everything else is a means to an end that will bring the world to its annihilation. To some knowers of the truth, the gentleness and warmth is just a stolen set of traits from those who he had once consumed, to ease humans into thinking that he is among the people--that he is in this world to truly end suffering. To the destruction of the labeled "dissenters" or the opposition, he is apathetic. He is merely a vessel to carry out the whims of a world teetering on the edge, forgoing any sympathies that true deities have. In more ways than one, he is far worse.

The Spear
During the great battles with opposing deities, as written in the scriptures, Eosphoros wields a lengthy spear in battle. The weapon is seen as graceful, it's length representing the longevity of the God of Light's existence, the tip is the merciless that pierces the heart's of the unworthy,
so they may know the might of the savior. Gold
The color itself represents the divinity of the deity, and the radiant glow that will be bestowed upon the world once the savior returns. The precious metal did not come about as an offering until his loyal, most devoted followers began to give up worldly possessions in his name. Many of his first devotees were wealthy, upperclassmen who had less than desirable traits, and even more detestable ways of gaining their wealth. Perhaps, in an attempt to be saved like the most lowly before, they offered up their treasures and began to follow the teachings.
Wings
The symbol that adorns the cover of the Savior's Scripture are the wings of Eosphoros. It is commonly depicted as six, ethereal wings that surround an orb of light. It is said that they can bear the weight of the world's sin. When the Saving Day finally comes, those wings will embrace the remorseful and their sins will be washed away in the Light, along with the rest of the world.
(Offerings)
Worldly Possessions
One of the main teachings of the scriptures, is that worldly matters do not concern the faithful. One's possessions are treated as such, as the God of Light is only concerned with the purity of the soul. Treasures, clothing, food, drink—even the most faithful willingly sell their homes. Many abstain from worldly pleasures, refusing nothing but the clothes on their back. Sometimes, even shoes are foregone and many go about their day barefoot.
Devotion
The most basic method of offerings, but can also be the most meaningful. To give time to repent, to celebrate the coming of the god is the pastime of many of the faithful. To teach and spread the word is also another way to give devotion.
|
Eosphoros' blind, devoted followers grant him power, just as it would for any other deity. However, their devotion and their entire religion were built on a singular, unmistakable lie. Truthfully, he cares not for their devotion. In the end, every single life in this world looks the exact same to him—insignificant within the grand scheme, within the will of the world—no matter how much they might "repent". |
Immortality, Reincarnation-Every "cycle", which is every 1000 years. From the moment Eosphoros was created, then to the moment of his first defeat at the hands of Invidia, the Justicar (goddess of balance/justice), was the first cycle. His defeat was only a temporary one, for his return was a mere millennia later. Exhausting power or defeat at the hands of another triggers a hibernation state, then Eosphoros re-emerges. There has only been speculation of where he goes when he is in hiding. The deity can be harmed through magical and physical means, but there is no known method of truly ending the cycle of rebirth, at least, not yet. Light Manipulation-Can will light into being from nothing. It can be used in multiple different ways, but it is frequently wielded as a weapon as "hard light", then constructed into a physical object, like a spear for instance. This can be morphed and shaped into whatever form Eosphoros chooses (shields, weapon, creatures that he can control). Existing matter can be transformed into light. Other sources of light can be absorbed by him. Pure light can be released and can be used to heal, or it can be used as an attack as it's purest form. The primordial nature of it is unstable, but if bestowed on someone else by Eosphoros himself, they could have the power to wield some form of his own power. Consumption-Eosphoros is a combination of many other deities that have been "consumed" by him. Each deity that he consumes, he takes on a part of their psyche, their abilities, their strength and their appearance. Their abilities sometimes manifest themselves in the form of his light (for example, creating weapons out of light was only possible after consuming the God of Weaponry and War). After being consumed and absorbed, that deity is forgotten by the masses (mainly after their faith diminishes after their prayers are ignored). Eosphoros' power largely depends on how many he has taken, and his "divinity" has his followers play a role in bolstering his strength. |
(Worship)
Celebration of the First Witness
To celebrate the first, mortal witness of the deity and the supposed author of the scriptures, a gathering takes place and there is a reenactment of that faithful day performed in the temple. Many use the time to reflect deeply upon themselves. Others may use the day to further the teachings.
The Communion of the Saved
Also simply referred to as "The Saved" for sake of convenience. Eosphoros' faithful followers. Followers don a simple, white robe with long draping sleeves, wear a golden wristlet on their right wrist. The leaders of the faith wear a golden circlet instead of the wristlet. Some wear shoes, but not all. They only leave their designated temple of they decide to leave on a pilgrimage to spread the word of their faith. If not, they will remain in their designated town or city and preach there. Followers are taught to be strictly pacifists unless they absolutely need to draw a weapon, either for self defense or defense of another.
Temples
They are loosely based on Greco-Roman architecture: doric pillars, open courtyards, high ceilings and imagery upon the walls and pillars. Every inch of every temple is built with polished marble and limestone. There is only white and gold used within the temple, never any other color. Inside sanctums are spacious and open, with benches surrounding the Altar in a circular pattern. Many rooms line the corridors of each temple. Many temples are large, but the largest have rooms that house each and every follower that decides to reside there, and have room to spare for guests and other activities.
Adjuration for the Cleansing
On the day that Eosphoros makes his return in the world, his followers from every corner of the earth gather in the largest temple in the capital city.
The Altar
In the innermost sanctum of the temples, lay the altars. Offerings are given, scriptures are taught, and the most important celebrations and rituals are always taking place here. It is made of polished, almost shimmering ivory marble. To desecrate such a place would be considered an act of blasphemy.
Statues
Since the known sightings of Eosphoros are that of his most perfect form, he is depicted as such in all forms of art. In many statue depictions, he is seen to be extending one hand outward in front of him. His other is holding a spear at his side, standing rigid. More gentle depictions are of the deity kneeling, hands outstretched and palms facing upward, or of him embracing what seems to be a globe. Statues are made in the upmost of care and with a critical attention to detail. The most lavish and expensive marble and limestone create these pieces. Many are put on equally intricate pedestals, and can be found scattered about the interior and exteriors of temples.
