Grimmshaw

A long time ago, a grand and powerful, if somewhat irresponsible mage by the name of Aivery Mallesk once roamed the earth. Aivery took a liking to a uniquely beautiful soul from another world, and their offspring would yield them many years of happiness. However, the fates forbade them to remain at each others side until death, and a family was shattered. In wake of this forced separation, Aivery urged his children to spread across the world and bring the same happiness that their mother had given them to their own families.

Once such child, whom was gifted the curse of foresight, saw a vivid and horrible future for his own son, not even a year old. In an effort to preserve his son's life, and ensure that he would go onto become just as powerful a mage as his father and grandfather, the child was sold into slavery, his origins hidden from him.

This slave would take the moniker 'Grimmshaw' as he grew older. Grimmshaw spent his whole childhood a slave to various masters, whoever had bought him most recently. Young Grimm had not known any other life than servitude. As he turned into a young adult however was when his story took a darker tone. His latest master, who himself was a slave-driver, sought to expand his 'inventory' and had Grimm, and others of the same station, preform horrible atrocities.

Kidnapping, assault, abuse, rape, theft, torture, murder. It was all Grimm was taught. It was all Grimm had to do to spare himself the same fate he inflicted upon others. And at the time, he felt not one ounce of remorse for it. Grimm earned his own name, and many of the soon-to-be inducted would fear and shy away from his soulless gaze, silently pleading for him to choose their neighbor.

It was because of his proficiency that earned Grimmshaw his freedom. After years of inflicting pain and moulding fearful people into obedient slaves, his master was kind enough to grant him his freedom. At first, Grimm knew not what to do, his whole life knowing nothing but service. But he swiftly found his place among the crew of the Lucinda, a pirate ship captained by David Locke, as a ship's mage using his demonic ancestry's natural magical aptitude.

With the destruction of the Lucinda, and the construction of the Redwater, Locke granted him his own ship, the old captain intending to create a pirate fleet with the Redwater as the helm. Of course, with a taste of freedom still relatively sweet in his mouth, Grimmshaw and his new crew abandoned Locke and the Redwater in efforts to see the future, and hoping to bury his past while he was at it.
