  • Early Life

    Born Sakura Tohsaka, Sakura is the biological sister of Rin Tohsaka, daughter of Tokiomi Tohsaka and Aoi Zenjou. Like most magi, her father chose only one child to carry on his family's tradition as he believed raising an additional child would introduce competition. With some convincing from Zouken Matou, Byakuya Matou, an ally of the Tohsaka House, adopts Sakura with the intention of training her as the successor of the Matou's magecraft, due to his own heir, Shinji, being incapable of sorcery.

    Unknown to Byakuya, due to Sakura's natural abilities, Zouken seeks to use her as one of his future vessels, empowered by the Angra Mainyu.

    Immediately after her adoption, she is forced to endure cruel training under Byakuya (overseen by Zouken on occassion), which causes her to become an empty and emotionless shell resigned to her fate. Her adoptive uncle Kariya confronts Byakuya, and makes a deal with him to win the Fourth Holy Grail War in exchange for Sakura's freedom to return to the Tohsaka family. Unfortunately, Kariya dies during the war and Sakura misunderstands his motivation for trying to rescue her. His death demoralizes and convinces her that she should not attempt to fight against Byakuya.

    After the end of the Fourth War, Zouken gathers the shattered grail from the war and hybridizes the collected black ichor with several of his crest worm familiars. He implants the parasitic worms into Sakura's body, which drain her Mana but feed on her carnal impulses.

    Some time later, she mets her new brother Shinji (who was studying abroad at the time of the Fourth Holy Grail War) when he returned to the Matou House, having been kept from the truth of magecraft entirely. Though he comes to love and accept his new sister, he bullies her. After following his father to his study and overhearing a conversation between him and Sakura about her being the heir to the Matou family instead of him, he begins to abuse her like everyone else in the Matou family. Because she was apologetic and expressed pity toward him, Shinji took that as her submitting herself to him since she displayed no emotion. Some time after, Shinji began raping her.

    Although castigated and humiliated on a daily basis, Sakura maintained her bearings with great stoicism. For the eleven years after her adoption, she grew to resent Byakuya and Zouken for their cruelty, Tokiomi for sending her away, and finally Rin, for never coming to save her. However, she still kept the ribbon Rin gave her. She draws her strength to endure such hardships from her friend Shiro, whom she admired for her dedication. She joined the Archer Club to become better friends with her. After Shiro was injured in an accident, Sakura begin to visit her daily and help around her house with daily activities.

  • Heaven's Feel

    Byakuya decides Sakura will enter the 5th Holy Grail War. She becomes the principal Master of Saber, who was summoned several days after the start. Shinji, unaware of the summoning and determined to prove himself to his father, uses Sakura's desire not to fight Rin to pressure her into summoning Lancer and yield her Master's right to him, although she did retain the original Command Seals. As time passes, the combination of fatigue from supplying two servants with energy and her contempt for her sister intensifies due to her belief that Rin was the cause of all her suffering.
