THE GOLDEN
GIRL ___________________________________________ Sophia Godfrey was born in a small prison doctors office in 1985. Her mother had been sentenced to eight years in prison for grand larceny, and her father had written away his parental rights, and she therefor was immediately at birth adopted by a waiting family in the system. She was adopted by Camilla and Charles Godfrey, a surburban white family with a good amount of money. Growing up, Sophia did not need anything, she was always provided with a roof over her head, nice new clothes, shoes on her feet, and could do whatever she wanted and her parents would provide her with the money for it. Early on she showed interest in sports, and first started out as a soccer player, before showing interests in gymnastics and running as well. It wasn't until she was seven years old, after she had seen an old movie that included archery that she insisted on her parents signing her up for classes. She developed skill for it, and quickly become an interest nationally for the junior archery competitions. In school Sophia was always the popular kid, she was rich, white, pretty and an attitude that didn't let anyone get in her way. She always had friends around, wasn't someone who wandered around on her own without people to talk to. However, when her archery started becoming serious she was pulled out of school in exchange for homeschooling by her mother Camilla, so she could focus more on her sport.
If plan A doesn't work, the alphabet has 25 more letters.”
― Claire Cook, Seven Year Switch Sophia grew in the competition world through her teen years, winning gold medal after gold medal, and quickly qualified for the national team as well, before entering her first olympics when she was seventeen. She won gold that year, and four years later when she was 21 she won gold twice and silver once. She retired her olympic and archery career two years after that, and instead focused on her studies and training others. However, Sophia had in her training years become increacingly more aware of the fact that she looked nothing like her parents, who were both blonde and blue eyed. When she ended her archery-competitive career, she approached her parents about why she was so different from them, and they told her of her adoption. from this moment it became a fixated thing in her head, the fact that somebody had given her away. She grew obsessed with finding her birth parents, and demand answers to the questions that had arose in her head - why had they given her up? Why wasn't she enough for them? And find them she did. They had never gone looking for her the adoption agency had assured, but that didn't mean she couldn't go looking for them. She couldn't find her father in her papers, but her mother was an easy find at first since she had a criminal record. However trouble arose when she found that her mother had changed her name, her original name was Faye Coyle, but there was no Faye Coyle to be found. She later on discovered that her mother had married, and taken the name Mancuso. She tracked her mother to Chicago in her 27th year, but she couldn't bring herself to approach her mother, because when she intended to do so she saw not only a man that looked strikingly similar to Sophia and could only be her father, but she also found that they had a son together, one younger than Sophia. It struck a nerve with her, that they had given her up - that she hadn't been enough, but here they had been for twenty years raising a son who was of the same blood and genes as her. Instead she settled down in Chicago, took a teaching job at the local archery-training facility, signed up for online university classes, and settled down in the city until she could get herself to approach her parents, until she knew how to ask them, how to get the answers she so desperately needed. |
