Habren Abernathy

History
Once upon a time, a princess married the heroic prince of her dreams. Or rather, the beautiful high school mean girl married her high school sweetheart, the football team's quarterback, and believed she had achieved her happily after on the backs of many teenage girls' shattered self-esteem which had been shattered to build her own. All was well within her perfectly maintained kingdom until such a time that a daughter was born and the little girl was not in fact the perfect dainty carbon copy of herself that she had wanted. This child was Habren, who was in fact actually a changeling, a redcap to be precise. Ever strange, eccentric, and uncanny as all changeling children are. Ever blunt, "difficult", and hungry as all redcap children are. Habren's unceasing hunger in tandem with her stocky physique was a blight upon her perfect mother's delicate sensibilities, though for all dearest mother's efforts, instilling the notions of diet culture into a redcap is like tossing buckets of snow into a volcano. Utterly useless. The girl's odd ability to see through her mother's flowery cajoling and softened language to the ugly truth was also disconcerting. At least Habren's relationship with her father was less tenuous, apparently bonding over boxing and aggressive contacts sports can make for a stable foundation.

When Habren experienced her chrysalis and discovered her redcap nature, getting used to the appearance of her fae-seeming was harder than dealing with the inherent distrust of the other kiths towards her own. Dealing with her mother had already given her a thick skin, other changeling pre-teens and adults disguising their cruelty behind honeyed words and witticisms barely did more than graze the surface. And if the ability to smile in the face of a more direct insult put them off, then all the better for her. There are some that would suggest Habren's insistence upon her presence among the Seelie is an issue of challenge-do your worst and see how I yet remain-or perhaps the consequence of a long-standing dare of bet. Either way, Habren remains among the minority of Seelie redcaps, and has earned some degree of respect as a decent pugilist and occasional bodyguard. How decent? Let's just say that most think twice before deciding if they really wish to be on the receiving end of her fists or her hatchets.

Even as she might confound both the Seelie court and her fellow redcaps, Habren knows who she is, and she refuses to be ashamed of it. Habren is Habren. Her confidence often seems to border on arrogance, though she thinks it's often funny how knowing one's worth is often translated as cockiness. She will prove herself on her own terms, of that she is certain. And perhaps, she might net some proper respect for her kith from everyone else in the process.
