Moroi are benevolent vampires. Opposed to the Strigoi, they are alive, mortal and born. They tend to have magical powers, are sensitive to sunlight (and while exposure to sunlight is not lethal to Moroi, it is very uncomfortable), and drink the blood of humans and Dhampirs.
Moroi are said to be very beautiful. Their skin is described as being very pale and their bodies are slim and tall. Moroi are taller and slimmer than humans and dhampirs, and naturally have less muscle mass. In compare to their Dhampir guardians they look pale, tall and slender.
Due to their slim bodies, female Moroi in general have smaller breasts and slimmer hips than their Dhampir cousins, who are usually more curvaceous. Moroi females and males are described as possessing a supernatural beauty. They have a pair of fangs that do not retract.
A Moroi's diet consist of blood as well as normal food. They can survive on either, but blood is more important to them. Usually the school they attend provides human feeders for them to have daily feedings. Moroi bites contain endorphines and many of the feeders are addicted to the bites. The longest a Moroi can go without blood is two days after which after they start to weaken.
|ELEMENT|It is common for a Moroi to specialize in one of the elements: air, fire, earth, water or spirit, the element spirit being forgotten for a long time. Moroi, who specialized in the spirit element, were thought to have not specialize at all. The users of water, fire, earth and air are drawing their powers from each element. Only spirit users are drawing their powers from their mind and body.
Originally, Elvira was thought to have not specialized at all, but her element is, in fact, the rare element of "Spirit", a psychic element that draws from the body and soul, giving her the following abilities: extremely powerful compulsion, healing and resurrection. Her powers first manifested during a car accident when she was fifteen, killing her entire family and half-sister Jane. Her extreme shock and dismay triggered her powers and she unwillingly resurrected Jane, thus binding the two spiritually and marking Jane as "Shadow-kissed". Elvira is an excellent healer although the more she uses her powers, the more Spirit dissolves her sanity. Her sensitivity makes her want to use her powers when she sees something hurt or killed. Such incidents result in depression and her cutting herself.
|COMPULSION|As a Moroi, Elvira also has a special ability called compulsion which enables her to control the mind of humans and Dhampirs through eye contact. Strigoi and spirit users have much stronger compulsion than the regular Moroi. Moroi are not allowed to use their abilities as offensive, only defensive. This is why they use Dhampirs as guardians to protect them. Though it is known that in the past, Moroi used to fight alongside with their Dhampirs guardian (using their ability both offensive and defensive).
|REGENERATIVE HEALING FACTOR|Moroi heal easier and quicker than humans, allowing them to recover from injuries quickly so long as they feed. Despite their healing factor, Moroi are still mortal, and can die of advanced diseases, exsanguination and severe injuries. They also weaken in old age, just like humans. Although Moroi can contract diseases, especially terminal diseases, it is unusual for a Moroi to get sick or catch viruses.
|ENHANCED SENSES|Moroi have stronger senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch than humans. Moroi are shown to be able to distinguish Moroi/Dhampir/Human blood by taste. Moroi possess better night vision than humans, enabling them to see even in very dim illumination such as starlight.
|ENHANCED SPEED|Although Moroi are faster than humans, they aren't as fast as Strigoi and Dhampirs. Moroi aren't very strong physically, and are absolutely no match for Strigoi. Compared to Dhampirs, Moroi are generally physically weaker and less nimble.
