✶ Personality: Mae is driven, first and foremost. Driven to do a good job, to succeed, and to make sure her crewmates, her chosen family, know that she has their back. She has no problem taking charge of high stress situations if need be and generally meets everything head-on. Trust issues from her past makes her distance herself from others at first, but once those walls come down she displays loyalty that cannot be broken and care for others that makes her appear warmer than she would otherwise. Her rather complicated and traumatic past is shoved far back into the recesses of her mind where she tries to keep it at all times, though doing so has made her rather sensitive to certain topics and situations due to how desperately she wants to keep from dealing with her past. She is a complicated being, but one who can be extremely valuable as a friend, a coworker, or a protector.

Born beneath a starry sky and ready to die beneath one. Mae is the daughter of a common whore in a port town in Ireland, her father being the captain of a trade ship that had docked there, briefly. She was raised where no child should be and by a mother who cared only for herself and saw her daughter as a nuisance, and then as a means of profit later on. At the age of twelve she ran away from her horrid life and snuck onto an airship, hoping to go literally *anywhere*. She was discovered shortly after leaving port, and instead of being thrown overboard, was taken in by the captain and crew of the privateering ship she’d quite randomly chosen. Instead of trying to start a life at the next port city, she stayed, finding a sense of family in the rest of the crew. The cannons and artillery fascinated her more than anything and they had a hard time keeping her away from them, even during battles. The girl appeared quite fearless by all accounts. She became a powder monkey early on, then was promoted to gunner and excelled at the position, even, unbeknownst to her at the time, killing her father with a well-placed shot to an enemy airship. Her privateering days came to a stop when their Captain was captured and executed and much of the crew lost heart and disbanded. Despite The Sunbird not being a privateering gig, so to speak, they had a good reputation and she’d heard Lanier, their captain, was well respected and liked, hence why she chose to come aboard.


Her history from Mae's own words: “I grew up with me ma for a time. She couldn’t give a fuck about me and I went through horrible things under her care. Me pa was a right bastard, too. He was told about me, but he decided to leave his problems at the port, as ye do. As soon as I was old enough ta know better, I snuck onto one o’ the airships and that’s where I stayed. They were privateers, the lot o’ them, and I didn’t really know what that meant till much later, but primes did I love it! Turns out in me days o’ mannin’ the artillery, I was the one to blow the hole in the ship me pa was on and ended his life. What’re the chances o’ that, eh? Part o’ me feels bad for it, but the other part doesn’t regret a thing. Fuckin’ cunt.“
