Saphir Siriano

Saphir is a shortish man with an uneasy smile and a thin sheen of sweat perpetually wetting his forehead. His darting, nervous eyes are golden brown and darkly circled, as if the man hasn't had a restful night in ages.

He keeps his thick, unruly black hair tied back in a loose ponytail, and wears his scraggly beard a little long. The backs of his hands, his arms, legs, and chest are similarly hairy, and usually a little peeks out from his billowy shirts. He typically wears dangly gold-plated earrings.

While Saph prefers fancier clothes, his outfits are always travel-worn and at least a decade out of fashion. You can usually catch him with a lute slung over his shoulder, either in its traveling bag or actively being plucked.

☆ You could call Saphir magically sensitive. Not in the sense that he's good at it—more in the sense that he gets itchy near strong magic. It makes him a GREAT lookout though, if you're into that. Saph certainly isn't.

☆ If he plays his music a little too intently, his spirit will literally leave his body. It's... it's a whole thing, okay?

☆ Has an enchanted self-swinging rapier called Lucy.

On a good day, Saph can be playful, engaging, and downright charming in a fumbling sort of way. He becomes fast friends with strangers, happy to swap good stories and strum out old standards on any instrument you put in his hands. A happy Saphir is generous with his coin and quick to make sweeping promises he has no means or intention of keeping, which inevitably makes the good times short-lived.

Most often, Saphir is a nervous wreck and a life-long coward, always looking over his shoulder for someone who means him harm. He's quick to fill in silences with nervous chatter, and is not at all above begging if it means saving his hide. When he's in especially deep trouble, Saphir is hugely susceptible to easy, ill-advised answers. Despite his otherwise risk-adverse demeanor, gambling, stealing, and grifting become downright compulsive: an ill-advised shortcut to a life of leisure and safety.

Saphir does still find himself plagued by occasional bouts of having a conscience, though. Against his better judgement, he might surreptitiously slip stolen valuables back to their owners, or go out of his way to help someone in need. It's a bad habit Saphir wishes he could break.
