    This website serves as a collective intelligence about the Perinyx species as we know it to be. The knowledge is ever changing and upgrading, built by a conglomerate of ideas from a plethora of individuals. Thank you for taking the time to read about our idea!     Please keep in mind the Perinyx are a closed species, and players must apply to join. There is no application fee or joining fee. However, a requirement of admittance is, in order to get your first Perinyx full body art piece, you must go through Atropa Grimm.

  • Physical Attributes

    Average Statistics for Both Genders

    General appearance is that of a cervid with wings and a cascading, colorful phoenix tail. Antlers are common among both genders, but often females appear thinner and smaller.


    Height - Between 5 and 8 feet tall (Without antlers)
    Weight - Between 140 and 320 lbs (Can vary beyond these parameters, this just serves as an average)
    Wingspan - Between 20 and 50 feet
    Typical Build - Usually on the lithe side with a low BMI, but not 100% the case.
    Colorations - Natural colors for pelt base, but phoenix plumage on the wings and tail, as well as highlights in the hair can appear as any color. It is considered rare for the entire head of hair to match the phoenix plumage but it can occur.
    Crystal Features - Perinyx antlers, hooves, and talons are comprised of magically imbued crystal, chosen by the player. All types of crystals are considered usable provided they are a solid structure material. When a perinyx gets close to the time of their rebirth, they will shed their antlers in preparation to grow a new set and these antlers will maintain a level of magic energy unless used, something like a battery

    Skeletal Structure - All Perinyx hatch from their eggs with a skeleton which is comprised of a diamond infused calcium. This is created when the carbon in the unhatched perinyx bones undergoes the heat and pressure of incubation, causing it to form microscopic diamonds. Their bone structure is strongly reinforced, but still hollow to maintain the ability to fly. Replacing the bone marrow in their skeleton is a weightless magical energy current and where much of their elemental phoenix magic is stored for use. Their strength can be measured as about 5x stronger than an average human bone.

    Eyes - All Perinyx have black sclera with irises that usually match the color of their phoenix plumage, though not always the case. However, their irises are comprised of a biological crystal and when blindness occurs, atrophy can cause the crystal to break down and the flecks of broken crystal will float around in the ocular fluid, a reference image depicted below.
    When Perinyx activate their manipulation, their eyes will take on a glow which matches the color of their phoenix soul, a guide is listed in the Phoenix Soul segment.

    Diet - Perinyx are omnivorous, equally on both sides.
    Blood- Perinyx blood glows the same color as their Phoenix Soul and because their blood has this bioluminescence, it affects the soft tissue mucous membranes in their body. Their mouth, tongue, genitals, and nipples can be affected. This blood also carries some magical properties inherited from the Phoenix soul. This includes minor healing, and antivenom capabilities, this antivenom property also gives all perinyx an immunity to venom, particularly well from snakes or reptiles because of their history with the basilisk. (Keep in mind that the glowing bits can vary from player to player, so upon conception the player can choose what is going to glow and how much light it will give off.)
    Reproductive Requirements - Perinyx are hybrids from the original species of Peryton, and one of their reproductive requirements is a sacrifice. Before a female will ovulate, she must consume the still beating heart of a sacrificed humanoid. Once it's eaten, her ovaries will spawn her seed, and shortly after the male will mate, fertilize her seed which will then be birthed as an egg. The soul energy of the type of individual sacrificed can affect the offspring's temperament after hatching. For example, if a murderer is sacrificed, the offspring has the potential to inherit those qualities, so the sacrifice should be an honorable one.
    The period of time from fertilization to the egg laying can vary but usually lasts around a month, and during this time the mother's crystal portions can become weak and brittle as her body is gathering minerals to form the crystal shell which will house her young.
    Phoenix Soul - Every Perinyx is imbued with a Phoenix soul, whose color coincides with the element that they inherited at birth.
    A general guide for phoenix colors goes as follows:
    Ignis - Warm colors. Bright Reds, oranges, yellows.
    Aquoan - Cooler colors. Blues, indigos, and violets
    Terrahn - Earthy Colors. Greens, Browns, golds.
    Caelum - Atmospheric colors. Electric/sky blues, platinum yellows, silver.
    Umbrahn - Neon colors. They have been seen with a variety of colors but almost always neon in nature.
    These colors are NOT definitive. However it is considered EXTREMELY rare for a Perinyx to have a phoenix soul that is off color from it's natural element; even if its not entirely unheard of.

    Incubation Period - The incubation period of Perinyx crystal eggs can last from 70 to 90 days, this crystal shell usually being of the same kind of crystal that the young will later grow into antlers and hooves during the growing process. They must be kept in an actively burning fire in order to ensure proper development of the young's phoenix spirit. It must be rotated daily so there has to be at least one dedicated parent there to monitor the progress. Slight variations of temperature in a properly incubated Perinyx egg can cause changes to the developing young's elemental skill. So, it is likely that in scenarios where more than one egg is laid, the different offspring will take on different manipulation abilities.
    Aging Rebirth - Perinyx are immortal provided they go through their rebirths. From birth, they age till their physiology is mature before their first burn. After the first burn, every subsequent century, a Perinyx will undergo a phoenix rebirth to shed it's years and regain it's youth. This also replenishes their soul energy, provided the individual doesn't do something to prevent the process. Perinyx fully mature around the age of 500 years and typically show their elemental skill between 300 and 500 years.

    Hybrids are welcome, but keep in mind that dilution of Perinyx blood would result in diminished magical abilities.

  • Mutations

    Perinyx are not immune to evolutionary oddities. Here are a list of a few known Mutations that affect the species. None of these appear to be transmitted from parent to offspring, and so spontaneously affect random Perinyx.

    Excess Crystals/Plumage - Normally, these extra crystals would manifest as spines that protrude from the skin somewhere near the joints of the Perinyx. Can also affect the jawline, eyebrow crest, cheekbones, or tailbones. Can also manifest as bird-like scaling on their extremities. This particular mutation usually doesn't show until maturity, when antlers begin to grow. Feathers can also appear in places that would seem useless, placement being a bit more sporadic than the more conspicuous crystal growths. Some common areas of these feathers are around the face, ears, eyes, wrists, and ankles. Though they have been seen in other places, they are just less frequent. Having this condition can cause arthritis and soft tissue aches as crystal breaks through the skin.

    Coloration - Solid colors are considered rare among the species, most pelts have markings of one form or another. Also, hair that is a complete coloration of their Phoenix plumage is rare, usually those colors appear as only highlights in the head hair. Some solid colors however can have adverse affects. For example, albinism and hypermelanism can both have issues with the sun, in an albino it can cause sunburn and bald patches where in a melanated peri it can cause them to overheat quickly.

    Cock-Tail - This typically occurs in males, where their tail carries a rooster-like arch in the plumage. This condition can make balance in flight more difficult.

    Multi-Winged - This can occur in up to 3 sets. This is extremely rare for a Perinyx to have three fully functional sets of wings, though usually they will always have at least one set of flight capable wings. Having multiple wings can be a blessing and a curse, especially if only one set is flight capable as they add extra dead weight to the perinyx, reducing their stamina in flight.

    Tusks - Like musk deer, some Perinyx deal with elongated canines which appear like long fangs. These can make it harder to eat and if a fang is broken it can leave the perinyx in extreme pain.

    Dwarfism/Giantism - When a Perinyx exceeds, or fails to meet the normal criteria of growth height for an average perinyx, they can suffer from a myriad of disorders relating to these conditions. Spinal deformities, limb deformities, as well as physical and mental health issues.

  • Magical Traits

    Soul energy

    All Perinyx deal with Soul Energy. Soul energy is the Yin and Yang within each individual Perinyx, and so represent the passive and aggressive natures within each individual. It is also the force responsible for producing the Phoenix Rebirth.

    Passive energies can produce very protective defensive maneuvers where aggressive energy can generate hugely powerful offensive attacks.

    This energy manifests and is fed through acts of emotion.
    For example, anger and retribution exist on the aggressive end of the spectrum, where forgiveness and empathy exist on the passive side.
    In order to properly master Aggressive energy, one must know how to control their anger and channel it.
    In order to properly master Passive energy, one must know how to let go of anger and exist in peace.

    Feeding either of these two energies two much could result in corruption or deterioration of the soul energy within, because both are needed to maintain balance; and if the soul energy is negatively affected too much, it could delay or even stop a Perinyx Rebirth which can be a death sentence.

    Masculine and Feminine Energy

    The Perinyx society has a very profound sense for the Masculine and Feminine energy that exists within nature.
    The Feminine energy and Masculine energy exist as branches of Soul Energy, and in order to master one's element, they must also master their ability to tap into both their masculine and feminine energy. This is why their deities almost always appear in pairs, as a respect to these opposing forces which help create balance, not only in Perinyx, but also with the world.

    Where Soul Energy is the raw emotional force within the Perinyx, the masculine and feminine represent different aspects of magic.
    The feminine energy is soft, nurturing, and empathetic.
    The masculine energy is strong, cunning and determined.

    Each Perinyx, whether male or female, has the ability to tap into this energy and therefor utilize it's traits, and depending on which energy is being used, can determine the effect of different manipulation abilities.

    For example, most healing magic requires a Perinyx to tap into their feminine energy for it to be entirely effective. But many offensive attacks are based in the masculine energy, to derive from it's strength.

    All of these variations of energy can be combined to produce different results. For example, someone using aggressive feminine energy could heal someone completely anew after being on the brink of death. Where someone using a passive masculine attack could use their manipulation to create a powerful trap which wouldn't necessarily harm it's captive.

  • Soul Fusion

    Soul Fusion is a decision taken by Perinyx and their chosen life mate.
    This is a ritual in which two Perinyx undergo a rebirth together and when this occurs, their souls fuse and they are considered to be bonded for life.
    This fusion creates new attributes in each Perinyx and there are different levels to each bond, even though, any bond would carry abilities along the lines of Telepathy and location sensory.
    For example, strong bonds with Perinyx who have a deep, undying love could have a bond where they could feel and experience every emotion and sensation of their partner when tapping into them, even down to their heartbeat.
    A weaker bond, which can occur in instances of arranged marriage, would still produce the basic effects of the fusion, but would be easier broken if one of the partners were killed.

    This bond can be so strong that broken fusions can result in suicide of the surviving partner, so this isn't a thing to be accepted lightly. They are literally fusing their souls to another, and therefor their existence rides on them being together for the rest of their existence.

    In order to go through this process, the couple must consume the Elixer of Rebirth which is a substance drawn from a fire flower and mixed with the blood of a virgin soul. When consumed, in induces the combustion of a phoenix rebirth in the Perinyx, and when this happens, the couple will cling to each other till the painful end.
    Their souls will meet in the ethereal realm, and if the bond is true and successful, their souls will merge and then resplice back into two parts of the same entity. So now a single soul, split in two, inhabiting two bodies.

  • Soul Elements

    Below is a list of the different Soul Elements which can be harnessed and controlled by individual Perinyx. These Elements are born into each Perinyx and they will often display their connection to said element in their early years. These elements will also dictate which temple they would attend to attain mastery of manipulation.

    With each soul element comes a set of pros, and cons, which are listed below.

  • Ignis

    • Soul Element: Fire
    • Manipulation Abilities: The ability to create or conjure fire.
    • .: Control of substances that are at an inferno temperature
    • Levels of Mastery: .
    • Basic Fire Manipulation: This is the first stage in learning to control an Ignis soul element.
    • Lava Manipulation: Molten stone that is at a temperature that is still hot enough for the Perinyx to Manipulate, the same could be applied to metals at the same temperature
    • Steam Manipulation: This represents mastery of their soul element and requires immense skill because water can be damaging to an Ignis Perinyx
    • Weaknesses: Prolonged containment away from the sun can deplete their fire element and stop their ability to conjure flame
    • .: Prolonged captivity in water, submersion can cause death in certain scenarios
    • Resistances: Immune to Fire and extreme heat

  • Aqua

    • Soul Element: Water
    • Manipulation Abilities: The Ability to create and control water in various forms
    • .: The Ability to manipulate items and objects with water within them.
    • Levels of Mastery: .
    • Water Manipulation: The basics of controlling water or viscous materials in their liquid state.
    • Ice Manipulation: Control of the water within ice, or the ability to freeze liquid water into ice.
    • Blood Control: This represents mastery of their element. The ability to control liquids which contain vital life within them.
    • Weaknesses: Prolonged captivity in a hot or dry climate
    • Resistances: Immune to water damage and freezing temperatures. They also have plumage which is water proof, which allow these Peri's to travel to great depths without getting wet.

  • Terra

    • Soul Element: Earth
    • Magical Manipulation: The ability to manipulate Earth whether it's solid stone or loose soil.
    • Levels of Mastery: .
    • Earth Manipulation: Control over soil, sand, or solid stone, whether wet or dry.
    • Magma Manipulation: The ability to control superheated earth from underground.
    • Metal Manipulation: This represents mastery of their soul element. Control over any kind of refined ore, at any temperature.
    • Note*: Terran Perinyx are not immune to hot temperatures, and so can sustain serious burns when dealing with these superheated items.
    • Weaknesses: Strong electrical or wind currents.
    • Resistances: Heightened hearing for underground activity as well as reduced need for oxygen, especially when underground

  • Caelum

    • Soul Element: Air
    • Magical Manipulation: Control over atmospheric aspects, such as wind, storms, and facets of those phenomenon.
    • .: The ability to create or dispel storm features such as lightning, rain, and hail.
    • Levels of Mastery: .
    • Air Manipulation: The ability to manipulate air currents and forces.
    • Storm Creation: Manipulation over the aspects of weather that can create powerful storms, or dismantle them.
    • Temperature Control: This represents Mastery of their soul element. The Power to control atmospheric temperature. It has the potential to permanently change a climate of an entire area if used maliciously.
    • Weaknesses: Places with stale or stagnant air. Also areas with limited air flow
    • Resistances: Grounding, even in high winds and immune to electrical damage

  • Umbra

    • Soul Element: Energy
    • Magical Manipulation: The ability to control energy, whether light or shadow, into solid forms.
    • .: Control over dimensional behavior, to the point of being able to conjure portals and manipulate energy in the ethereal realm
    • Levels of Mastery: .
    • Light Manipulation: The ability to control light waves and form them into solid structures that can be controlled telekinetically.
    • Shadow Manipulation: The same kind of control as light manipulation, but applying to the absence of. Control over shadows to form them to solid objects
    • Dimensional Mastery: This represents Mastery of their soul element. The ability to manipulate energy in the Ethereal realm. Also the ability to manifest portals to alternate dimensions or wormholes.
    • Weaknesses: Prolonged exposure to sunlight.
    • Resistances: Ability to phase out of existence and avoid physical damage
