Five String Bard

  • Vandir of the Eastern Orchards

    Vandir was raised in a heavily traditional family of wood elves. Their village was close to that of high elves and was therefore influenced heavily by them. Wood elves from the Eastern Orchards often come off as snooty or condescending, although they’re more likely just showing mannerisms picked up from high elves.

    This can help so-called ‘orchard elves’ get along with high elves and certain types of humans. It also causes problems between other groups of wood elves who may think their eastern kin have forgotten their roots.

    Vandir isn’t much of a fan of the orchard settlements. He’d rather travel, see new places and meet different kinds of people. Life is one big trip for the musician. As long as he can book performances and find a warm place to sleep, Vandir is satisfied.

    Vandir carries the other streotypical personality trait of the orchard elf. His personality is quite laid back and accepting. Some have called him a calming presence, even surprisingly so.

    Vandir plays a five stringed instrument his people call a resonator. His particular one is crafted of rare woods from a distant high elf forest. The neck is crafted to fire maple. The guitar’s body is crafted from star mahogany and finished with a fire maple top, figured to show ornate lines of grain. The finish seems to dance in the light with a three dimensional effect.

    The instrument was made by a master craftsman, musician and arcane mage. Many believe his instruments carry powers of magical influence on those who hear its music. Only the best materials are selected for their arcane properties.

    Vandir has seen his music help mages focus and cast stronger spells. His music can give fighters strength and embolden them. He resonator’s tones can even relax the anxious or sooth the downtrodden.

    The resonator plays deep, booming tones which seem to hit each listener deep within their body. It is a deeper pitched instrument than many other stringed ones. Vandir also favors dark scales and tunings. His notes seem to dance in a pattern which hits the ear like an ascending set of rhymes.

  • Touch of the Witch

    Vandir found himself changed after a stranger he trusted to give him shelter turned out to be a witch. He is embarrassed by the effects of her spell. The rustic elf now goes to great lengths to hide the curse she placed upon him by way of her dastardly magic. He hopes to one day return to normal.
