Rémi d'Aubigné

Born some time in the 1700s in southern France, Rémi had his beginnings as a modest peasant farmer, working a plot of land under a landowner within the feudal system. Even now it tends to show. Stocky, with worn, calloused hands, and good work ethic, he has a need to keep busy even during downtime. His name likely hasn't stayed consistent throughout his short 100 or so years of unlife, but he'll always introduce himself as Rémi.


Rémi had four children. Jean-Jacques was the oldest, followed by Louis, and Ninette. His wife Marie died in labour with their youngest, Alexis. Alexis was always very weak from birth, unable to do much work on the land, which greatly strained the family's resources.

Life only got more difficult during the forming of the Assemblée nationale constituante and official "abolishment" of feudalism in 1790 onwards. The intent was there, but the raised taxes and owed seigneurial dues made making ends meet difficult. Much of the French revolution and the Noble's problems certainly weren't Rémi's problem, minus an undead Noble landing in his field. Rémi was unsure, but Marie was insistent on taking her in at the time.

Years passed; Marie passed, Rémi's two eldest left to serve their country, his daughter tried out a life of her own, and eventually Alexis's frail body succumbed. There was an odd constant in his life, the undead visitor that checked up on him from time to time when he and his wife were nice enough to care for her.

She returned to him years later, when he was alone and at his lowest point.

His sire is a well-heeded vampiress known about France merely as Madeleine. He became, for a time, one of her right-hand vampires, alongside another spawn. While there he overcame his humble beginnings and became more learned, taking to the books she had more interest in collecting than reading.


Madeleine keeps a house in Paris, where she portrays herself to the normal folk as a reclusive, mysterious socialite who occasionally entertains at late dinner parties.

Sergei Shafirov was the name of a renowned Russian ballet danceur, who mysteriously went missing from the spotlight in the mid-1800s. He makes up the other half of Madeleine's fidus Achates.

Presumably Madeleine eventually lost interest in Rémi, and he was allowed to leave to explore the world. That didn't last long and instead he got stuck in a cursed German village. Welp.
