He is the current heir to the throne with a father that is dying. His father wishes to see his grandson born before he passes this earth into the next life and has promised the Prince should he produce an heir he would freely hand over the crown with his blessing before his passing. The prince is not concerned with producing an heir and especially marriage has negated with his father that his heir can be from any damsel he chooses.
