Marcus Reder

Dr. Reder started the height of his career as a psychiatrist for the military. He studied soldiers who were suffering from PTSD and other mental illnesses that were caused by trauma. It was his goal to get them back on duty and get past the emotional scarring. He ended up taking it a step further and wanted to turn them into super soldiers. He learned with the right incentive, psychotherapy and drugs he could take their mental illness to his advantage. The treatments and experiments triggered side effects with his patients. It heightened the symptoms they experienced from their mental illness to the point they either couldn’t take it anymore and killed themselves or they developed special abilities ranging from super strength or hyper senses to mental manipulation or pyrokinesis.

When the government learned about these experiments and what they were doing to the patients, they shut down his project and destroyed everything as if it never happened. The following year, he restarted it under the pretense of opening his own mental hospital. Most of his patients were brought in as criminally insane or delinquents whose family members didn’t want to deal with anymore.

He had his first breakthrough with Damon Masters who came in after being convicted with murdering his father. He diagnosed Damon with Dissociative Identity Disorder and each of his individual alters developed their own unique abilities. Canaan was immune to pain, anyone near Ana was forced to tell the truth, Mikah had the power of persuasion, and Baza had beast-like qualities. Although Dr. Reder failed to merge Damon’s alters so all these powers were present at once, he went ahead and released him into the real world, under the impression his rehabilitation was complete. After three years of observation, he had to bring Damon back to Krieger Institute.
Dr. Reder continues to observe and experiment on his patients with the intent of taking them on covert missions.
