Joan aims to maintain a sensible style that requires minimal effort, even when her lack of exertion becomes more prominent compared to those around her. Her dark hair is cut in short layers, just barely brushing her shoulders. Her skin is tanned, lightly weathered from her time spent in the sun. Where her efforts lack in appearance, she makes up for with her work ethic, which can be assumed by the dirt that is often spread across her hands and cheeks. Jo prefers to keep her hands busy, even if it means to trace the woodwork beneath her fingertips, or to pick at the cracked skin of her hands, until her next job can occupy her again. She doesn't consider herself sophisticated, and dresses the part with simplistic garbs and worn, patched trousers. Although she tries to give the impression of an open book, there is much more beneath her composed surface; all she needs is the right person to come along and chip away the pieces.
