Alright well if you want me to smuggle this, it’s going to take a lot. It will be hard to hide, it’s temperature signature will show up at checkpoints, as well as on biological scanners, I can already tell that I’m gonna have a few rough riders trying to steal it from me, and I have to keep it in very strict conditions for it to stay alive…no, I’m not saying no to the job, I’m just giving you an idea of how much it’s going to cost you. What, did you think I was going to be nice or something? I’ve got about five other things I need to smuggle across this system and I can’t exactly take the galactic freeway out of here, and if I get caught with even one of these things my whole operation will be at jeopardy, and you sir are wanting me to transport a very high value, very easy to detect bit of cargo. Hermes Mk17:

Hermes Mk17’s are a biomechanical engineered human using both mechanical and biological science to create what was originally intended to be humans that could live in space and remedy the many effects space has on the human body. The project started with some simple modifications, things like bones remaining unaffected from the changes in gravity, eye sight not failing, and blood not fluctuating while in space and landing on a planet. But generations of evolution of the project took place making many changes.

Soon however these products started to be funded for war. The Hermes Project was repurposed for battle, their “products” raised up in camps to train them to fight, engineered to have short childhoods and extended adulthoods, and given enhancement to their dexterity and reflexes. They look like normal people, their only real signifier being their silver eyes. Aside from that every Hermes has a certain naming convention. Their names all start with the same first and last letter, their first name was uniquely given, the last name was the name of an earth state/providence across its countries, and a number is provided at the end for further identification. These letters denoted the class and purpose of each Hermes. In Morgan’s case, she is MM374, signifying that she is a pilot class Hermes. Another example would be one named Brandon Brooklyn 595, BB595 Special Operations.

This went on for quite some time until soon, the Hermes people and supporters spoke out against the practice, finding it to be immoral. The governments that be decided to disband the Hermes project, Hermes Mk17s marking the end of their production.

Hermes’s now have their freedom and have been introduced into society, there are many programs in place to help those who wish to find some sense of normalcy after living a life of war. Despite this there is a stigma surrounding their mind as being nothing more then war mongers, capable of violent outburst at any given time and their tough and rude behaviors often don’t sit well with many people. One other downside is that Hermes people are created to be infertile and unable to have children, so as time marches on their people become more and more of a faded memory.

Experienced in combat, ranging from adept to masterful depending on level of training before the project disbanded and in field experience.

Personality

Morgan is an embodiment of the fun rebel, a Han Solo meets Jack Sparrow type out in the galaxy. She exudes a positive energy into most things despite her rather violent and brash upbringing, living everyday with a smile as she grazes by death’s scythe. She is cool and confident in her abilities, much to a fault as when they fail, and when they do she can become highly upset. She is fun and laid back but always expects her plans to work the way they should, even the ones that throw all caution to the wind.

She is otherwise highly adaptable as her life long training and experience has taught her to be. She is good to have for getting out of sticky situations, and just as good for getting in them.

Beyond her smiles and chuckles she can act very brash and tough, luring people in with her charming appeal, and breaking them when they try to see what they can get away with. She does not tolerate lack of respect towards her, being both a part of the Hermes project and being a woman has put her in a position to have to prove herself a bit as most people wouldn’t want to work with either in her field, much less both at the same time.

Her name has been spread around a bit, people looking for a smuggler or unruly transport come to her often bidding high rewards for her service, and she keeps up her attitude of demanding the respect of the rough and tumble ruffians that she rubs shoulders with. Amongst her peers she has a bit of a silly nick name, simply just “Toothpick” for the obvious reasons that she is always chewing on one

She has a hard time with empathy. She doesn’t care about anyones feelings or emotions, in fact finds them to be rather useless for getting anything done. She’s not afraid of what she says or does unto another person because she simply could care less, to her people should stop being wussies, but that means no crying, no sadness, no regrets, no fear, no worry, no love, the pillars of things that make most human and human adjacent species a experience worth living for. The only emotions she cares to have is anger to motivate her, and any other emotion needed to just have a fun time.

Most of this hard shell had been conditioned onto her from her years in the Hermes project. There is a deep well of sadness, trauma, yearning for affection, and many more things within her, but it would take a lot of digging to break her free of those chains

Morgan Manhattan was born into the Hermes project as another one of its biological war fighters. When the protest rejecting the use of Hermes people as a means of war, she was already the equivalent of 15, and had fought in 7 battles, 2 large scale conflicts, and killed about 47 people, and downed even more space crafts.

Those in the project considered to be too young were given to specialized foster parents, all of whom where usually veterans who could help them through the troubles their battles have put them through.

A decent chunk of her time with a family, and her departure from them leading to her new life are left unanswered as of now (because you gotta figure that stuff out boyo)

Hermes people had a lot of bad luck finding decent work throughout most of society. They are stereotyped as violent aggressors that could snap at any given cause, and as such have a hard time finding good honest work. Most Hermes end up falling into mercenary groups or private militaries and unfortunately Morgan was no different. For some years she ran with a merc group going by “Last Dogs Runners” where she brushed up on her arial combat and sharp shooting skills. It was here she found her talents in piloting all types of space craft amongst her innate combat knowledge. Using her piloting skills she started picking up a side gig, smuggling contraband across galactic borders and checkpoints.

Even when piloting a sizable and clunky cargo ship she still managed to outclass most fighters at her tail, able to outwit and maneuver the best of them.

She broke her ties with her mercenary group and made a full time business out of her smuggling, currently working alone and untrustworthy of taking in a partner
