Jasper Clavane

Jasper was born with very impaired vision. By the age of two he needed to undergo surgeries in an attempt to restore his vision. By the time he was five, he was declared legally blind. At age seven, he was completely blind, unable to tell the difference between light and dark. He saw absolutely nothing. The blindness began to cause his eyes to lose their warm brown hue, eventually turning them milky white, which is disconcerting to many people. To hide this, he occasionally will wear sunglasses in public.

The tips of his fingers tend to have many scars and scratches from years of touching things he couldn't see. He'd get burns from stoves he didn't realize were there. Cuts from sharp blades he wasn't aware of. Rashes from accidentally touching plants he shouldn't have, especially as a kid. His hands and forearms are littered with scars, cuts, burns, and bruises all of the time, but he never seems to mind.

Although his fingers have a lot of scars, he still has a good sense of perception with them, and can read braille as well as learn what someone looks like if they let him touch their face.

He's been told all his life that he's handsome, or beautiful. Of course, he can't prove whether or not that's true, but he trusts the people that tell him. He knows he has red hair. But he doesn't remember that the color red looks like. He does know, however, that his hair is very long and soft, which he likes.

People tell him he has pretty, clear skin with no marks or blemishes. He can feel his face and feel no bumps or scars or marks, but he can't feel if he has freckles or not. People say he doesn't, so he trusts them. He knows he has full lips, because he can feel them with his fingers. They're always so soft, too.

He's noticed that sometimes people speak loudly when they realize he's blind, almost like they think he's deaf too. He isn't, but he doesn't say anything about it, not wanting to embarrass the people. His sense of hearing is actually incredibly good.

Jasper likes to paint. He can't see the colors, or the shapes. But he likes dipping his fingers into the little canisters of paint, feeling the thick colors coat his fingers, before he reaches up and presses them to the canvas, knowing he's mixing the unknown colors into shapes he can't describe. He never shows anyone his paintings. He's aware that they probably look awful. After all, who would want a blind man's artwork. He keeps his paintings in one of his closets, never to be seen by anyone. Not even him.

For work, Jasper reads the braille books as they're made, checking them for imperfections. If they pass without complication, they're sold. If not, then they're destroyed and remade. It isn't a very well paying job, but his parents are very wealthy, and provide the money for him to live on his own in a nice townhouse. He does love his parents, but he's stubborn, and wanted to live alone by the age of 18 or 19, just to prove that being blind isn't enough to ruin his life.

He tends to wear long, well-covering clothes to protect his skin from the sun. Many of his clothes are black and brown. He always brings along his close friend to help him shop, then once they're home, they will sew on different shaped buttons onto the inside hem of the clothes, so Jasper can differentiate between colors and wear something he thinks might look good.
