Departs, goes to waste
• • Lydell is a fine marble sculptor that specialises in 'veiled' statues. His pieces take anywhere from six months to a couple of years to finish, and are therefore priced accordingly. It's not uncommon for a house of wealth to commission him as a live in artist, whereupon he will work with his meals and board taken care of.
• • Time as a resident artist has also honed other entertainment skills, including playing the fiddle and Spanish guitar. His singing voice is a fairly good accented baritone. Lydell often sketches in a book, and has been known to draw portraits in exchange for coin. With such a gap between payments of his sculpted work, money is often tight.
• • He is currently renting a suite at The Golden Tether, working on a couple of pieces, as well as networking and looking for inspiration.

Like a frozen harvest
• • The Sinclair name is well-known in the world of trade, with exports of fine jewellery, cloth, tobacco, and liquor as their signature inventories. A powerful family with deep Highland Scottish roots, the Sinclairs have numerous branches within their clan. Historically, they have been known as great warriors willing to die to defend a cause they consider righteous, with devout respect for their monarchy and faith. These days, with their lands more settled, they have found great wealth in various business ventures.
• • Lydell's family deals predominantly in jewellery and liquor exports. With an elder brother and two younger sisters, Lydell was expected to marry advantageously, and continue working in the family business alongside his kin. After a match was arranged for him at twenty-four years of age, he finally cracked under the smothering pressures of nobility, and fled his family's estate with pockets full of precious gems. His parents and siblings are still alive, and he has nieces and nephews he has never met.
• • The money he ran with has long since been spent, but Lydell continues to pursue the fine arts under an assumed identity. He considers sculpting his true calling, and would rather live a life of poverty and humility than return to a life he perceives as inauthentic. Is he truly a starving artist, though? With a family that still searches for him and would welcome his return, he could certainly be considered more privileged than most.
• • Lydell does not speak of his family or his background, or he simply lies. He uses the surname 'Mason'. The only clues to his true identity are a worn letter, and a pressed, dried stalk of whin, both kept in a small locked box, hidden carefully in his belongings. The little key hangs on a chain around his neck.
