Here exists a well-documented theory about cloth monkey and wire monkey mothers; in the nurture vs. nature debate, it is widely accepted that infant macaque monkeys overwhelmingly prefer spending their time clinging to their cloth mother.
A latch-key kid, Samuel spent his early childhood swinging back and forth on the front gate and saying 'hullo' to other children that live on his street; there was no nuclear family or routine, only off-key piano chords trying to assimilate their best approximation of your dog standard British family. If it wasn't for their neighbours, he might have missed school altogether.
During his formative years, his learnings about life were stumbled on by chance; he happened upon libraries, discovered birds and once climbed a pylon once to get and imprint on an egg from a Peregrine falcon. As he grew older, it was not uncommon to first hear, then see, Samuel and his father's disagreements spilling out aggressively into the street as full blown fights. at age fourteen, he enlisted in the war with his friend Walter.
Through it all, Samuel grew into a thoughtful and inquisitive, if suspicious, young man with a knack for contact sports.
