Kane Pendragon

In the forgotten Kingdom of Camelot. Long after Arthur's reign. Long after the knights of the round table had all passed on. A hole was left in the heart of England that could never be filled. Though one band of knights did try. The modern knight of the old order. The leader of those knights hailed as Kane Pendragon. Pendragon isn't his family name but rather then mantle he holds. Each of his knights bares the name of the original knights of the round table. As they each represent a seat.

Kane is a man of few words. He lets his actions speak for themselves. A belief that valor is won by deeds, not words. He is a knight in it's purist form. With no king to serve, he serves all of England and lands beyond. Low born as he was, he has a deep regard for the common person. Countries and banners be damned. Every one deserve liberation and salvation from suffering.

But what do the knights do exactly? In a modern age where magic is rare. Creatures of the dark are far from it. Still roaming the lands in search of fresh souls. Some of them remnants of necromancy and thalmaturgy. Beings warped by black magic. Others are creatures left over from the White Surge. Golems, trolls, and other beast that serve the land to a fault. They may not be evil, but neither do they have any love for man, thus do these creatures still pose a problem for the common person.

It use to be that Kane and his knights are the ones who stood between England and these remnants of magic. Kane is the only one among the knights who can still wield the old paladin magic. After the churches banned the use of magic in England, Kane was outcast. Forced to wield it sparingly and only against opponents of unnatural power. The healing aspects of his magic reserved only to his most loyal knights. For his and their safety.

With magic banned, Kane and his knights aren't officially recognized. Creatures and people of unnatural nature go unattended because the churches refuse to admit they exist. Such magic is exclusive to their god or gods. Anyone who says otherwise is branded a heretic. They serve the people of all kingdoms now. No one says it, but they are who the kings and queens of this age turn to when they are matched by forces no man should be met to contest.

Kane is a mystery. He claims no heritage and has no family to speak of. He never speaks of where he came from. The man didn't even have a last name when he showed up in Camelot. He bore an armor of steel and brass trim. A shield with a lions head. A crest that belonged to none and a sword etched with the Paladin cross. Not even his own knights know of his origins. With each accomplishment came new legends to his origins. Legends that spread with each new triumph

Stories across England speak of a man of silver armor and the lions crest facing off against all manner of creature then vanishing without a trace upon it's defeat leaving many to wonder if what they had witness was ever real at all. All that was left to them was a fleeting memory. Legends on the lips of bards.

The most fantastical of these legends was the legend of the knight and the wyvern. A dread-worm showed up on a small village in the dead of night and began to lay waste to it's live stock. When the people revolted against the creature it turned on them and burned half the village to the ground. In the midst of the fire and chaos appeared a knew with a lion head crested shield. With a bright flash of light as he sword clanged against his shield, he caught the creatures attention. It unleashed an unholy flame upon the man. The knight stood firm, shielding himself and the rest of the village as the flames halted at his shield and traveled no further.

The knight pushed forward through the flame and rose to challenge the dread-worm with a swipe at his body. He must have stuck his target as the creature roared in anger rearing back away. The creature did not flee however. Instead it attack with claws and teeth. striking the mans shield over and over. Unleashing another flame. The knight stood his ground still. As the beast lunged for another strike with it's claw the knight pushed the claw away and hacked it off in a most beautiful parry. Losing balance the beast was now off it's guard. The knight raised his sword and most regal golden blade magical by nature sprang from the ground and struck the wing of the dread-worm. It fell to the ground in agony and when it did, the knight swung his blade down. A dozen sword fell from the sky and pieced the beast. Binding it to the ground.

In a final stroke the knight cleaved the head of the beast and a cold silence fell over the land. The man seemed to lament his task as he could be seem with a hand on the creature before it turned to dust and the swords that pinned it were no more. As the dust faded so the knight vanished. No proof remained save for the burned down houses and the recanted tales of a few beggars and a bard.

If Kane was indeed the man behind these legends, why form an alliance with other city state knights? Perhaps he got tired of working alone. Nearly met his match with a close call? Or perhaps wanted to leave behind more than a corpse with no one to bury and a string of bedtime stories.

What is known is that when Kane showed up. He did so with a deceleration. "I come to restore the old banners. The knights of the round table stood for more than themselves. It was a beacon to all civilization to the miracles but a few could perform. With the coming of the churches, the people have forgotten their worth. They pray to their gods for salvation and yet they rot in squalor. They fall prey to beasts no one believes in. They bend the knee and for what? The people need be reminded what mankind is capable of. I will show them this. I will be their example. We... will be their salvation. The answer to their prayers. They may thank the gods, but it will be sisters and brothers who answer the call. Camelot will once again stand for the salvation of man by man's own hands."

It is this rallying statement that brought the knights together. It matters not to them where their leader hails from. The valor and virtue of his heart are plain as day. All who fallow in his wake know of his deeds and the truth of his words.
