Hunters vs Wolves

  • In the Beginning....

    FOR EVERY HUNTER THERE'S A WOLF...


    As the story goes, thousands of years ago, the very first Knight family members were actually peaceful with wolves. They lived together, co-existed together, shared the lands, the hunts, the sun and the moon. The wolves did not frighten the humans then, and sometimes, a human would even fall for a wolf. The wolves told the humans of their bonds. Their pack bonds, their mate bonds, their bonds to each other. The humans wished to have a similar bond with and to the wolves, but without becoming wolves themselves.

    This is when the original Knight struck a deal with the witches' coven, asking them to bridge the humans and wolves permanently. The witches did initially agree to this but warned both wolves and humans of the consequences of magic. Both agreed to the terms, and once a fairly bloody ritual was performed, where Knight blood mixed with wolf blood, and that mixture was then passed to the original Vanguard family, the families were forever bound to the wolves. The humans were given identifying marks, and it was soon discovered that any that carried a Vanguard or Knight’s blood was born with these similar markings.

    For every human born, their wolf is born as well. This means for every Knight or Vanguard born, a wolf that will be of equal strength and their perfect match is born as well. The humans are marked with a special, unique to them marking when they met their wolf. If the mark appeared over the heart, it was meant to be a mate’s bond. If the mark appeared along the forearm or hand, it was to represent a friendship for life. All wolves and humans were ecstatic by this, as it meant they would always have a friend for life. It also meant that the humans shared in the wolves' strength, their passion, their raw emotion.

    The wolves also benefited by this as the humans began to teach them how to live outside of the woods, coaxing many of them into the town, where they taught them to read, cook, study and many other benefits. For quite a few years, things remained peaceful. They had learned of their marks and realized that they could now sense when the wolves were nearby. This new bond also gave humans strength. It did not make them immortal, as wolves could be, but it did allow them to protect their friends.

  • The Fall Out

    WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG...


    As the humans grew in their powers, they began to further understand their markings. The marks began to act as detection devices. When the wolf is not near, the marks are all outlined in red, lying dormant on their skin. When their wolf friends neared, the marks would tingle lightly and turn black as a way to let the humans know. This also let the human know where their wolves where, and if they were in danger or not. The humans also began to gain other marks as well. They began to call these ’Milestone Marks’, gained when the humans reached specific ages. The more marks the human had, the longer they had been alive, and the more they had bonded to the wolves. The humans also realized that they could use these marking to communicate with one another and began doing so to check in with each other and the wolves.

    This system worked for a very long time. The humans and wolves were peaceful, existing in the same space. At least. Until things went horribly wrong. One day, when the original Knight and his wolf friend were out, a fight began to break out in one of the local establishments, of which the two jumped into it. The Knight and his wolf fought back-to-back, but an accident occurred during it. The human, trying to take out another, wound up driving that knife into his friend when his friend was thrown into him while the human was advancing. Unfortunately, this would wind up being a kill shot.

    Devastation of the sudden severed bond made the Knight scream. However, this was the day the next secret was revealed. And the horrible consequences of breaking these bonds. If the wolf or the human kill the other, then the victor would absorb the power of the other. However, it would also leave the victor so empty, it would drive them into loneliness and insanity. This was the first time this happened, and it consumed the human. The human now had the strength, and power of the wolf. As the powers clashed, it made him violent. And hungry.

  • Let the Hunt Begin

    NOW WE'VE GOT BAD BLOOD...


    It was at this point that the Knight who had gained his wolf’s powers began to want and crave more of it. Slowly, he began to turn the humans on their wolves, driven by that hunger for power. He was successful in this endeavor, although it took some convincing for those who were very attached to their wolves. The Knight began to shred wolf pairings apart, and in this, a whole new set of marks began to form. These marks burned when they entered the skin.

    These were kill marks, and each mark meant another wolf. Misunderstanding what happened, the Knight convinced the Vanguard to mount against the wolves, convincing them that they could gain their powers, especially if they murdered the wolf attached to them. The humans began to train themselves against what they knew the wolves weaknesses were, rebranding themselves as HUNTERS. They spent time digging up silver to use against them, melting down anything they could to make weapons.

    They drove those that managed to escape back into the woods, but even then, these wolves were not safe. This began a massive war that continues to burn to this day. This distrust increased and churned, turning into bitterness. The Hunters had begun launching full scale attacks against the wolves and began to erase the peaceful parts of their story. Very, very few members of even the current Knight family know the origins, or that they are meant to befriend the wolves. Instead, bigotry, hate, racism, brutality against them was taught to the Knight and Vanguard children. Each generation was more hateful and brutal than the last as their hunt for power continues, each generation of new hunters unwittingly erasing more and more of their own history...

    Her mark for me that appeared over her heart the day we saw each other. She had no idea that it meant I was her chosen mate and she fought like Hell to not give in to the instincts of the wolf. Fate finally won and she is now my mate.
