Orlando comes from just another run-of-the-mill long-standing Slytherin family. His family aren't Malfoys or Averys or Notts or anything remotely similar, but they (believe themselves to) have some standing in society as an old family. And as a member of a family with (supposed) social standing, Orlando has had to attend every single party, every single gathering and every single dismal social event that his family saw fit to go to. When all he ever wanted to do was hunker down in a dark corner with a good book.

None of his family members have ever shown him any care or love. All he has known is reputation and looking decent enough to cutivate a respectable one. His older brother seemed to buy into the craze, which more or less left Orlando out of the running to be the prized mare that everyone fusses over. He wouldn't have it any other way.

The parties got slightly interesting as he grew older and discovered alcohol, however. After a drink or two, he can occasionally be seen doing some form of "socializing" where he basically gives whichever unfortunate individual he's talking to a verbal dressing down in front of an audience that can usually be found cheering in a drunken stupor. He doesn't have a drinking problem. Yet.
