  • "It's not enough to survive. I don't want to survive. I want to live."

  • The world is in shambles. What was once a beautiful and thriving civilization has turned into a desolate wasteland, overrun by the undead and destroyed by humanity's last effort to salvage life as they'd known it. It's been 15 years and all hope for a cure has been lost. All they can do is survive and make the best of it.

    Survivors are scattered across the planet, most often gathered in small settlements beyond the outskirts of the cities. It's estimated there are only about 2.5 - 5 million uninfected left in total, though what the exact number is nobody knows. As years passed, settlements fell apart and later regrouped once more. It should come as no surprise that stability isn't exactly a long-term feature in any group that has to fight tooth and nail to stay alive. But as is human nature, they persevered.

    Lorraine wasn't even a legal adult when the first infected woke from their deathbeds. An orphan within weeks, she found a tribe who helped her survive and taught her the necessary skills to make it on her own. Within a handful of years, the tribe was nearly wiped out through altercations with other settlements and the unfortunate losses to the infection.

    That is when she decided to venture out by herself, trusting nobody and surviving in isolation for nearly a decade. What few interactions she had were made out of necessity to resupply and trade. But she'd been old enough to know what life had been like before. The dreams she had and the future she'd envisioned may not be feasible anymore, but... just surviving? That wasn't enough.

    A restlessness has begun nagging in the back of her head these days. Getting up in the mornings is more difficult with each passing sunrise. What's the point? What is she surviving for? For years people had told her it was to create a better future, but she doesn't know what that looks like anymore. She's losing hope and is desperate to find her purpose in life.
