World of Darkness - New Light

This is a page regarding several of the important lore aspects White Wolf's tabletop RPG World of Darkness It's far easier for me to write out the important stuff here than force you to read several wikia pages, so here we are. Not to mention it allows me to make storyteller changes as I see fit - as what is the point of becoming a storyteller if I only intend to regurgitate the great work of another word for word?

Now - with introductions out of the way - lets begin.

White Wolf's World of Darkness (which will now be shortened to WOD for brevities sake) is a world of supernatural horror combined with mortal emotions and dilemmas. "Monsters" for lack of a better term are real, very much so real. They live amongst the humans in plain sight, and the few humans that fit outside the norm are blessed with supernatural powers capable of rewriting reality at their greatest. All of these being live and fight amongst each other, attempting to coexist while avoiding a prophesized mutual destruction at each other’s hands. This is The World of Darkness as it is currently, however a new chapter in this World of Darkness is oncoming, and it hopefully bears new fruit for all of its inhabitants.

New Light is my attempt at rewriting the portions of the original games that I myself do not sit well with. I have my own preferences regarding each of the games, and have conclude that I love the world too much to simply abandon it. So, why not just rewrite it to better suit my tastes? Furthermore it gives other storytellers the opportunity to make their own characters befitting an expanded setting.

This series is beholden to several different games, however this iteration will focus primarily on three altered versions of their base counterparts: The Theria : New Genesis, Vampire: The Inauguration, and Mage: The Enlightenment - with their core counterparts being Werewolf: The Apocalypse, , Vampire: the Masquerade, and Mage: The Ascension respectively.

Why make changes to these games? Well aside from wanting to tell my own stories in these amazing written worlds as well as applying them to a modern context, I fell in love with the worlds. Monsters are my passion, and they leave so many opportunities for writing within them. Without White Wolf, these amazing products would not exist, however - I would be hard pressed to deny that some aspects appeal to me more than others. A quick list of them goes as follows:

• Each game works wonderfully on its own, however when you interconnect them you run into some, continuity errors.
• Werewolf as much as I love it, gives most of the love to its namesake. Which in itself isn't a bad thing, however an entire race of shape changers sounds so much more fun. Not to mention it gives the wolves the chance to fix their biggest mistakes, putting them on the path to redemption.
• Grimdark stories while they have their charm, always leave me wanting more. So why not do the work myself?
• Some of the aspects of the earlier games are just a tad outdated. While Werewolf 5E is coming out soon, that still doesn't help all the other content regarding White Wolf's other games.
• With how many games there are in the WOD universe, things become just a tad bloated. So, why not minimize it down and focus on just a few races, and rebuild from there?
• Humans get hard shafted in WOD. They are without question the punching bags of the monsters - and when they aren't they are so horrendously mutated that they can hardly be called humans anymore. Either that or they become Saturday morning cartoon villains. So - let's add some nuance and give them some agency.
• Pentex - I do not like Pentex. I can only do "Evil Walmart" (or just Walmart at this point) so often. Let the problems of the world be our responsibility - both in cause and the journey to fix said causes. We don't need a world encompassing evil organization to convince us not to litter, or avoid deforestation or kill puppies.
• Power-creep was a topic of concern I noticed when I first got into Werewolf. In particular, some of the other races get totally gipped. Why do the friggin dragons and rats only get 3 main forms?! Outdated material like that means I get to rebalance it to make everything more "uniform". Things like that make the world seem more cohesive than the base games are.

That's the gist of the things I wanted to change, so here I am to change them! Regardless, I still need to give credit where credit is due: White Wolf has created such an amazing world. I cannot nor will I claim any of this to be my work. By all legal accounts its theirs, and I am simply doing this for my own enjoyment. Plus making DND-esque characters is super fun.

Gaia is changing, and all of her inhabitants feel it to some extent. Her denizens are being given the chance to not to start over, but to truly heal from the damage they have wrought upon her - and it can all e attributed to the unbounding of the Wyrm.

The Fera can only theorize how the Wyrm was released from the thick entanglement of the Weavers webs. Regardless, with this release, this newfound freedom, things quickly changed for the spirits embodying each of the Triat. The Banes - spirits of the Wyrm while not having ceased their destruction, instead kept to their duties. All things must come to end end at some point, and the Banes that were uncorrupted di that just. With the cycle of creation, organization, and destruction once again in motion - it was as if the Umbra once again functioned as it should have. This was soon denoted as one of the Dual Gifts of Gaia, as there were significant changes in the world that shook it to its core.

Gaia's second gift was a great shock to the world. There were soon sightings of a breeds long thought to be extinct: The Camazotz - the werebats. Bat's spirit had long thought to have been fully corrupted, causing the bat shifters to soon follow from the depths of the Umbra - the shadow of the material world. The Grondr - the wereboars soon emerged after them: consumers of the corruption and fellow guardians of Gaia. Lastly, within the first sighting of an entirely new breed of Fera was first noticed in the heights of metropolitan cities - where Garou have marked birds talking to fellow shifters from building rafters and rooftops. However, not just any causal pigeon or dove were talking to them, it was always a bird of prey - a raptor of some kind. Soon vultures and eagles had joined the fray on Gaia's more open lands, with owls following soon after. These were quickly dubbed The Garuda by many Homid shifters, with the wereraptors taking a liking to being named after a mythological bird deity. The reappearance and birth of these breeds was hallmarked as Regeneratio by many of the older kin, who first saw these sightings as Gaia correcting herself after centuries of long sought war and pain.
