So great, so deep that one can fathom it only at those special moments when the last breath faded like a dying wind.
In death, the sinners are reprieved.
It's the return home from a long, unspeakably painful wandering. The correction of a great error, the loosening of tormenting chains, the removal of barriers.
Ezra sets horrible accidents to right the wrongs.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀With a family like the Guo, who needs enemies?
The story begins with his parents, Jinhao and Tianmei Guo.
His father Jinhao was a high ranking councilman, a lecherous one unfaithful to his wife. The man had many affairs, but through bribery, it was never addressed or acknowledged in the public eye though many knew of it. To those that tried, and failed, to rise conspiracy against him, Jinhao denied such relations and those that spoke against him never did again.
However, as awful a man Jinhao was, Ezra's mother, Tianmei faired no better.
Tianmei was hardly a woman one called demure — headstrong, cold, and savvy for business. She was a perfect housewife with an overseas education and a successful career as a mage. An excellent trophy wife in name, though behind closed doors, she had her own string of lovers wrapped around her fingers.
With parents like this, Ezra had grown up with servants whispering of the validity of his birthday. Soon this gossip spread amongst his relatives and Ezra's true origins were speculated and criticized as certainly one of his uncles or aunts or cousins were more destined to become head of the Guo household instead of the bastard son of a worn-out bitch for a mother.
But what of his parents? Did they love their eldest son? No, of course not.
Who would love the scapegoat? The sacrifice? The sole reason for their success?
Why did he live?
Ezra's birth had been a strange one.
The head household of the Guo seems life a perfect family. They were in portraits at least. A successful husband and wife followed by their eldest son, eldest daughter, and youngest son.
Ezra was the eldest son.
Why is he still alive?
Ezra wasn't expected to live.
He was the martyr for their success.
Jinhao and Tianmei followed the ritual to the letter. Step by step, their first child was to be sacrificed for the certainty of their fortune. Ezra was never meant to live long. Not without a soul.
They were most certain he had none.
Amongst the Guo, only Ezra's eyes are red.
Amongst the Guo, only Ezra lives. And lives. And lives. And lives.
And these days? He calls himself Ezra.
