Lleril Moranyon

Lleril was originally built for D&D 5E (3 Warlock, 2 Cleric), and is therefore compatible with most game systems utilizing similar mechanics. His original campaign had a classic Medieval High Fantasy setting, but he can be easily adapted to a more historical fantasy or modern setting.

Most days Lleril is lucky to be called skinny instead of skeletal, which is one of several reasons he tends toward wearing copious amounts of clothing (the other two being that A. he is a vampire and therefore sensitive to sunlight and B. he is a vampire and therefore always cold), so that even if people can see the relatively gaunt appearance of his face and hands, at least they don’t need to complain about his ribs sticking out. Early on after his escape there was a significant issue with well-meaning old kitchen maids practically shoving food down his throat to “put a bit of fat on [his] bones”. It only ever served to make him sick.

Most of his clothing is worn in three or four layers, from long robes to tunics and overcoats, leggings and whatever else he can find. Hooded cloaks, hats, and scarves are a must in his wardrobe, lest he suffer the effects of sun-exposure during the day. The majority of his wardrobe exists in shades of black, red, or purple, simply because it is easier to hide blood stains on dark colored fabric.

Beneath his many layers, the man’s own skin tells the story of his history by way of a complex web of scars and knots. His face was probably rather round and pleasant at one point, though poor nutrition has led it to become hollow and gaunt. Similar things can be said of his hair, once thick and glossy now more fragile, stringy and thin, and now either constantly tied back or cut short for the purposes of convenience.

As part of the curse of his vampirism, Lleril’s eyes are a dark shade of red and have a tendency to glow in dim light or darkness. Normally, he conceals this feature with a minor illusion spell to make them appear brown, although they were originally a pale blue-gray color. Additionally, his ears are ever so slightly pointed, although one of them has a bit of a jagged edge to it on account of some unsavory moments that occurred during his captivity. Whether these points are due to the vampirism again, or if he was once some species of elf, is unknown, and Lleril himself does not actually remember either.

He has never been the most imposing vampire, being generally weedy and only coming to about 5’8”, which while not helpful for maintaining any sort of dignity within the cult he was captured by, has been immeasurably valuable in attempting to blend in among the general populace now that he has escaped their confines.

Optionally, Lleril can be accompanied by his familiar: Canker.

Canker was a gift to Lleril from his warlock patron, the source of his vampirism, and takes the form of iridescent green and purple tentacled... creature. The creature itself doesn't have much of a shape on its own, but chooses to live within the cranial cavity of a dilapidated human skull, much like an octopus or crab might choose to live in a discarded shell for protection. Canker is able to move by sticking his tentacles out of the many holes in the skull and crawling as if said tentacles were legs.

Although he has very little power on his own, Canker's bond with his master allows Lleril to cast spells through him. Lleril also has the ability to see through his familiar's eyes, though at the cost of his own sight while he does.

Lleril's relationship with his familiar is strained, to say the least. Given that Canker originates from and primarily serves the patron that turned Lleril into a monster, their goals seldom align. Even so, the creature is bound by magic to follow any commands it is given, which has led to an attitude of 'malicious compliance' when taking orders. When not bound to do Lleril's bidding, Canker has a general tendency toward passive aggressive antagonism and mischief in all forms, especially when left unattended. He was once left unsupervised for approximately ten minutes while Lleril conversed with two of his associates, during which he used a knife to carve the words "BOOGR ZON" on the leg of a chair.
